This trend also applies to other games, like Final Fantasy 16, which became available on PC and Xbox Series X/S after being exclusive to PS5. Final Fantasy 7 Fans Are In For A Busy 2026
While it’s wise to be skeptical of rumors, a reliable source claims we’ll soon hear more about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. NateTheHate, during a podcast on February 4th, predicted that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be revealed at the February 5th Nintendo Direct. He anticipates a new trailer will also announce a release date. NateTheHate believes Square Enix was initially aiming for a summer 2026 launch for the Switch 2 port, and now estimates it could arrive around June 2026, coinciding with Summer Game Fest.
Recent reports confirm what Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has already stated: the Switch 2 version of the game still needs some work to run smoothly. He assured fans that the developers are dedicated to making the port excellent. Because FF7 Rebirth features a much larger open world than the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it’s currently unclear when the game will be released on Switch 2 and Xbox consoles.
According to NateTheHate, the third chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be available on all current gaming platforms from day one. This means, unlike the first two games (FF7 Remake and Rebirth), it won’t be exclusive to PlayStation. I’m hoping we’ll see more during the showcase, like The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, and maybe even news about Kingdom Hearts finally coming to the Switch! The Switch 2 already has a good lineup planned for 2026, but I’m really curious to see what else Square Enix will announce after the Nintendo Direct on February 5th. It could get pretty exciting!
