A potential remaster of The Sims 4 has been spotted online, sparking a varied reaction from players. Originally launched in September 2014, The Sims 4 has received numerous expansion packs over the last ten years to add new content and keep the game engaging. If a player had bought every pack at full price, it would have cost them over $1,500 to own all the expansions, game packs, stuff packs, and kits.
Recently, there was a lot of buzz among Sims 4 players about a potential final expansion pack. Many thought it might be a historical, royalty-focused game, similar to The Sims Medieval. This speculation happened alongside uncertainty about the future of the Sims franchise after the cancellation of Project Renee. By late 2025, rumors began circulating about a possible remaster of Sims 4, with information appearing about a project known as “Project X.”
Sims Community Shares First Image of Project X
So, Sims Community just got an email with what looks like a promo image for Project X! It shows four Sims characters – they definitely look like Sims 4 characters, but way more detailed and polished. That makes sense if this really is a remaster, which a lot of us are hoping for. Underneath the Sims, there’s the classic plumbob and a slogan saying “Create beyond limits.” The file name was something like “TSX_MATERIAL_SIMS_EXPLORATORY,” which Sims Community thinks might be part of a playable demo. Fingers crossed!
The recent announcement of a remastered version of The Sims 4 has left many fans with mixed feelings, but a new image seems to have improved the overall response. Comments on Sims Community’s blog post reveal that many players appreciate the game’s current style and are relieved the remaster won’t drastically change it. However, some are unhappy, feeling the remaster is too similar to the original and that paying for it doesn’t make sense, especially since The Sims 4 is still actively updated with new content and DLC. Many players feel the game hasn’t aged enough to justify a remaster at this time.

When Are More Sims 4 News Expected to Come Out?
- According to EA, January 2026
The idea of a remastered version raises questions about what content would be included and how much it would cost. While it would feel incomplete to play without any expansion packs, buying all of them again would be expensive – they currently cost over $1,000 combined. The Sims 2 Legacy Collection did include most packs, but that was because the original game was no longer available, and it had been a long time since new content was released. EA would need to carefully consider this, as players who already own the expansions are unlikely to repurchase the same content.
