Legendary GTA Competitor ‘Scarface’ Coming to Steam and Epic with HD Graphics Mode

Gamers have recently been digging through the files on Steam and Epic Games to see if the 2006 game Scarface: The World is Yours might be making a comeback. The game, which was similar to Grand Theft Auto and originally released on the PlayStation 2, hasn’t been updated due to complicated licensing problems.

The game is being revived by a new publisher and will receive an update with HD graphics as downloadable content. For those who don’t know it, The World is Yours lets players step into the role of Tony Montana from the 1983 film Scarface, imagining a scenario where he survives an attack and works to rebuild his criminal empire.

Is Scarface: The World is Yours Coming Back?

Fans have long asked for an updated version of the 2006 game, Scarface: The World is Yours. It let players explore a vast open-world version of Miami, personalize their experience, and even renovate Tony Montana’s famous mansion. The core gameplay focused on building a criminal empire.

Okay, so it definitely had its share of problems when it first came out, especially on PC – that version was a mess! But honestly, playing it on PlayStation 2 was amazing. Even twenty years later, I still think about how much fun I had with it. It was made by Radical Entertainment, who you might know as the team behind The Simpsons Hit & Run and the Prototype games.

The game Scarface: The World is Yours included a lot of licensed content – Al Pacino’s image and voice, story elements taken directly from the film, a popular soundtrack, and the overall Scarface brand. Because of all this licensing, it was difficult to consider remastering or re-releasing the game.

EC Digital Entertainment, a publisher based in Hong Kong, is seemingly preparing to release the game digitally for the first time. This relatively unknown publisher is supporting a re-release of Scarface: The World is Yours on both the Epic Games Store and Steam, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Some social media users are reporting that the Epic Games Store appears to have been accidentally shown off prematurely, possibly due to a technical error on their system.

If you’re a fan of Grand Theft Auto, you should definitely play Scarface: The World is Yours. Although it came out twenty years ago, it’s a really great game that didn’t get as much attention because it was released between Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004) and Grand Theft Auto: IV (2008).
