Today saw an update for the PS5 version of “The Legend of Dragoon,” although Sony was vague about what this update entailed. Nevertheless, enthusiasts of “The Legend of Dragoon” have been vocal on social media, claiming that this patch addressed persistent problems specific to the PS5 version, which didn’t affect the initial release.
First debuting in Japan in 1999, and later in the West in 2000, “The Legend of Dragoon” was created by Sony’s acclaimed Japan Studio, known for producing other iconic titles like Ape Escape and “PaRappa The Rapper.” By 2021, Japan Studio had been consolidated into other Sony studios, including Team Asobi, the developers of “Astro Bot.” “The Legend of Dragoon” was a unique turn-based JRPG that allowed players to command a young swordsman named Dart and his allies, who tapped into the power of Dragons to transform into Dragoons and combat various malevolent forces. In 2023, an enhanced version of “The Legend of Dragoon” was re-released for both PS4 and PS5 as part of the Classics Catalog.
Despite some technical hiccups during its initial release, The Legend of Dragoon has been continually improved with updates to rectify persistent problems. As per MP1st, the PS5 version of the game can now be downloaded as version 1.000.004, but the PS4 version is still waiting for an update at this point. Version 1.000.004 didn’t come with official patch notes, leading fans to explore which unresolved issues were tackled. Some of the reportedly fixed problems included corrupted character name text, poor sound effects quality, missing battle voices, and a bug with Rose’s Magic attacks that would force the game to crash. Although these issues weren’t present in the original PS1 game, this update for the PS5 adaptation should offer players an enhanced experience. The version 1.000.004 update requires around 107 MB of storage space on a PS5 console.
