LEGO Has a Surprising Set Planned for My Most Anticipated Movie of the Year

LEGO often partners with popular franchises like Minecraft, Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars, and we know those collaborations will continue into 2026. The new partnership with Pokemon is also starting soon. However, the most exciting LEGO sets often come from unexpected collaborations.

A recent leak within the LEGO fan community suggests that a set based on the upcoming Ryan Gosling film, Project Hail Mary, is in development. While many films releasing this year seem like natural fits for LEGO sets – like potential sets for Avengers Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, or even the Super Mario Galaxy movie and Christopher Nolan’s The OdysseyProject Hail Mary is a bit of a surprise. However, it’s a very welcome and exciting one!

What is Project Hail Mary?

If you haven’t heard of Project Hail Mary, it’s based on the novel by Andy Weir. The story follows a teacher who used to be a biologist, and he unexpectedly ends up in space with the mission of saving humanity. That’s all the setup you need – it’s best to go in knowing as little as possible to fully enjoy the story’s many surprises.

I definitely recommend this book. The author, Andy Weir, is famous for The Martian, which became a popular movie with Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott. Like The Martian, it features a lone protagonist facing incredible challenges in space, using scientific thinking to overcome obstacles. Weir excels at creating relatable characters and adding humor, but it’s their clever problem-solving that really draws you in. You can’t go wrong with either The Martian or Project Hail Mary – both are fantastic reads that you’ll quickly get lost in.

Just because a book is amazing doesn’t guarantee a great movie, but the team behind the Project Hail Mary adaptation is incredibly promising. Ryan Gosling is perfect for the lead role – he can do both funny and heartfelt, and he’s a captivating actor. Plus, the directing duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller have a fantastic track record, and Drew Goddard, who brilliantly adapted The Martian, is back to work with Andy Weir’s story. Considering all of this, Project Hail Mary is easily my most anticipated film of the year, and thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to see it.

Few Would Have Expected a LEGO Project Hail Mary Set

Okay, seriously, a LEGO set based on Project Hail Mary?! As a huge fan, I’m already imagining all the cool things they could include. I’m guessing the Hail Mary spaceship itself will be the main build, which makes total sense. But please, LEGO, don’t stop there! There’s one character in particular – if you’ve read the book, you know who I mean – and I need a minifig of them. Honestly, if they just make that one minifig, I’d be thrilled!

Even if the LEGO sets are on the smaller side, I appreciate LEGO taking more risks with its designs. The Stranger Things Creel House felt like a typical release, but I always enjoy being surprised, even with familiar themes. The LEGO Game Boy was a complete surprise and a really great set.

I’m trying not to get too excited, as rumors can be wrong. However, LEGO leaks are usually very accurate – we’ve seen a lot of reliable information about the upcoming Pokémon sets, including how many pieces they’ll have and how much they’ll cost. I’d be really disappointed if all this anticipation for a LEGO Project Hail Mary set turned out to be for nothing. Plus, Ryan Gosling definitely deserves his own LEGO minifigure!
