LEGO Horizon Adventures May Prove an Oddly Good Refresher Before Horizon 3

As a long-time fan of the Horizon series, I must say that I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures! Having spent countless hours exploring the post-apocalyptic world of Zero Dawn, I can only imagine how exciting it will be to relive those memories in a more light-hearted, LEGO version.

This holiday season, gamers playing on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch will have a unique opportunity to experience the world of Horizon from a new angle with the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures. Although this is the fourth game in the Horizon series, developers Guerrilla and Studio Gobo have crafted LEGO Horizon Adventures so that both seasoned fans and newcomers can easily enjoy its gameplay and storyline. There’s no need for prior knowledge of the earlier games, but the story of LEGO Horizon Adventures will likely revisit the events of Horizon Zero Dawn in the humorous, whimsical style that LEGO games are known for. With Horizon 3 potentially years from release, LEGO Horizon Adventures could serve as a fun way for players to refresh their memories about the storyline of Horizon Zero Dawn.

How LEGO Horizon Adventures Will Recreate Horizon Zero Dawn

According to the trailer for LEGO Horizon Adventures, it appears that the landscapes players will traverse in the game will be influenced by locations from the original title, Horizon Zero Dawn. At this point, only a handful of Zero Dawn’s famous landmarks have been teased, such as Mother’s Heart, the Nora tribe’s capital village, and possibly Cauldron ZETA due to the presence of a Thunderjaw within a Cauldron’s center in the preview. It is unlikely that every location from Zero Dawn will be reproduced in LEGO, but significant settings like Meridian and Sunfall may make an appearance as Aloy prepares to face Helis, the Eclipse leader, again in Horizon Adventures.

Apart from remodeling the settings of “Horizon Zero Dawn” in LEGO form, this upcoming game, “Horizon Adventures“, will also replicate numerous beloved characters and machines from the original game as LEGO minifigures and sets. The minifigure versions of Aloy, Erend, Varl, Teersa, and Teb have already been unveiled, many of which are presented as playable alternatives. Furthermore, several iconic machines from “Horizon” have been reconstructed using LEGO instead of metal, such as Tallnecks, Thunderjaws, Watchers, Scrappers, Shell-Walkers, Longlegs, Broadheads, Sawtooths, and Corruptors. With these minifigure characters and LEGO machines, players can effortlessly reenact memorable character interactions and combat scenarios from “Horizon Zero Dawn”.

LEGO Horizon Adventures’ Recreation of Zero Dawn’s Story

In the lighter, humorous spin-off titled “LEGO Horizon Adventures“, the world of “Horizon” will remain recognizable but more suitable for children. Despite its comedic tone, the game will still touch upon significant events from “Horizon Zero Dawn“. As announced by LEGO, Aloy’s backstory as a child raised by Rost and her quest to uncover information about her mother and confront the Eclipse will be depicted. Interestingly, Elisabet, the creator of Project: Zero Dawn, is expected to appear as a hologram, guiding Aloy throughout her journey in a manner reminiscent of Cortana in other games. This suggests that while “Horizon Adventures” will maintain the essence of the original story, it may avoid some of the darker aspects of “Zero Dawn“, particularly those concerning the downfall of humanity.

LEGO Horizon Adventures Can Recapture the Wonder of Horizon Zero Dawn

2017 saw PlayStation gamers captivated by the post-apocalyptic universe of Horizon Zero Dawn, teeming with colossal, beast-like machines. Despite a plethora of open-world games existing then, what truly gripped players was the richly crafted world of Zero Dawn, featuring diverse landscapes and numerous tribes, set in the desolate remains of the western United States. The game’s realistic graphics, immersive gameplay, and empathetic protagonist Aloy all contributed to Guerrilla’s new franchise becoming an immediate hit. These elements have since been carried over into the sequel Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West and spin-off Call of the Mountain.

Instead of previous LEGO games by TT Games, Horizon Adventures will feature a unique touch as it will be entirely encased in LEGO bricks for its visuals. Contrary to the blocky and humorous nature of LEGO Horizon Adventures, this upcoming game might still manage to capture the enchanting allure of Zero Dawn. Young gamers could be left spellbound by the sight of a LEGO-constructed world populated with machines, while longtime Horizon enthusiasts may marvel at how authentically Studio Gobo replicated some of Zero Dawn‘s famous landmarks in LEGO form. At the minimum, LEGO Horizon Adventures could draw in new players to the Horizon series and motivate them to explore other games before the release of Horizon 3.

The LEGO Horizon Adventures will mark the debut of the Horizon series on a platform other than PlayStation, specifically the Nintendo Switch, and it will also be the initial release to incorporate multiplayer features.
