LEGO has revealed its priciest model yet, the new Star Wars Death Star. This massive set includes 38 minifigures and over 9,000 pieces for building enthusiasts, along with numerous hidden details and nods to Star Wars lore. However, as the largest LEGO Star Wars model ever made, it does not come cheap. US shoppers will have to spend $999.99, while UK buyers can expect to pay £899.99 for this impressive set.
As a dedicated LEGO and Star Wars enthusiast, I must admit that the newly released Death Star collectible takes center stage among the latest additions to my collection. Not only is it the biggest LEGO set ever created, but it also comes with a hefty price tag, making it the most expensive one yet.
However, this isn’t the first time LEGO has dipped its toes in the realm of high-priced items. Back in 2017, they unveiled the colossal Millennium Falcon set, consisting of a whopping 7,500 pieces and retailing for $850 on their official website. At the time, it held the title as LEGO’s largest model ever, boasting numerous intricate internal sections that allowed fans to recreate beloved scenes from the Star Wars saga.
But now, that record has been shattered by the new Death Star set, which promises an even more immersive and detailed experience for die-hard Star Wars and LEGO fans like myself.
LEGO Reveals New Star Wars Death Star Set
On September 4th, a spectacular debut of a LEGO Star Wars Death Star was announced, featuring an impressive 9,000 pieces. This colossal creation tips the scales at over 8 kilos and stands tall at 70cm. It boasts an impressive collection of 38 minifigures and holds the title of the most expensive LEGO model to date. Due to its streamlined and slender design, this version of the iconic Death Star can be proudly displayed on a shelf once assembled. LEGO assures fans that it is richly adorned with intricate details and hidden gems reminiscent of the Star Wars universe, such as the trash compactor where Rebel heroes were trapped, Princess Leia’s holding cell, the stormtrooper-disguised infiltration control room used by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and the tractor beam control unit deactivated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, among many other delightful inclusions.

At first sight, this LEGO set might appear to be the company’s grandest Star Wars set yet, but many fans are displeased due to its high price of nearly $1000. On Reddit, user Karma_Doesnt_Matter comments that it doesn’t seem worth a thousand dollars, while Thedarkmoonrises labels it as “clumsy and uninspired,” suggesting that it represents more of the brand’s current state than its pinnacle. Additionally, some fans have criticized the TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack add-on, which is available for free as a promotional gift when purchasing the Death Star.
Although some may view it as a minor concern, users have pointed out that this GWP (General Weariness Package) won’t be around forever, leaving a part of the Death Star incomplete for those who don’t buy it right away. Reddit user SomerenV expressed his frustration, stating that while the cost and design of the set might not be the main issues, the inclusion of the GWP is baffling. He described it as an optional extra akin to DLC (Downloadable Content) or pre-order bonus for a highly priced set already, making the complete collection unattainable unless purchased immediately.

For folks eager to acquire the latest LEGO set, the Death Star, it’ll hit the shelves starting October 4, 2025. If you’re part of the LEGO Insiders loyalty program (it’s free!), you’ll get early access from October 1-3. For more specifics, check out the official LEGO website.
