Collecting LEGO has always been a pricey hobby, and it looks like costs are set to increase significantly in 2026. LEGO prices have been steadily going up for years across all product lines, from Star Wars to basic LEGO City sets, and recent information suggests this trend will continue. Even the smaller BrickHeadz collectibles are expected to see price increases of 9 to 30%.
Despite recent disappointments, there’s some good news for LEGO fans: two Sonic the Hedgehog sets are planned for release in early 2026. Surprisingly, they offer excellent value, especially when compared to other LEGO sets based on video games. Here’s what’s confirmed so far:
- LEGO Sonic: Speedster Lightning
- LEGO Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck
An 80-piece LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog polybag is also rumored to release in 2026.

- $9.99
- Releases January 1
- 126 pieces
- Includes Sonic minifigure
The new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Speedster Lightning set comes out January 1st and is incredibly affordable at just $9.99 – making it the least expensive LEGO Sonic set ever. Although smaller LEGO Sonic polybags have sold for $5, this is the first complete LEGO Sonic set to be priced under $20.
At a surprisingly affordable price, this LEGO set includes a complete Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure and a detailed, brick-built car modeled after Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Because it’s so reasonably priced, clearly connected to the popular games, and features the main character, this set is expected to be many people’s first LEGO Sonic experience.
Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck 77118
- $39.99
- Releases January 1
- 378 pieces
- Includes Silver and Knuckles minifigures
Although it’s more expensive than the Speedster Lightning set, the LEGO Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck still offers a great value. Based on the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds game, this set includes detailed builds of Silver and Knuckles’ vehicles, plus minifigures that look just like them. It’s also special because it’s the very first official LEGO set featuring Silver the Hedgehog.
While $39.99 for a 378-piece LEGO Sonic set with two minifigures isn’t the cheapest LEGO deal you’ll find, it’s a better value than past Sonic sets. For example, the 2025 Knuckles vs. Dr. Eggman set had fewer pieces (350) and the same number of minifigures, but cost almost $50.
These LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 2026 Sets Are Surprisingly Affordable
LEGO prices have been steadily increasing for years, but the jumps have been especially significant recently. This is due to rising plastic costs, LEGO’s investments in becoming more sustainable, and the expense of licensing popular brands – all of which are passed on to customers. While LEGO sometimes faces criticism for being expensive, they occasionally release sets that offer excellent value.
This is especially true when looking at the new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets. LEGO fans often use a ‘price per piece’ calculation to gauge a set’s value. While things like licensing costs and unique minifigures can make this method imperfect, it’s still a quick and easy way to compare the price of one LEGO set to others, both within the same theme and across different ones.
The new LEGO Sonic Speedster Lightning offers the best value for your money of any LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set released so far, costing just 7.9 cents per piece. Previously, the LEGO Shadow the Hedgehog bust from 2024 offered the best value at 9.7 cents per piece. While Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck is a little more expensive at 10.6 cents per piece, it still offers good value, especially since it includes the brand new Silver minifigure which isn’t available anywhere else.
Compared to similar LEGO sets based on video games, like those from the Minecraft theme, the new 2026 LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets offer excellent value. For example, the LEGO Minecraft Taiga Adventure set, also releasing on January 1, 2026, costs $9.99 and includes 79 pieces and two minifigures. However, when considering the price per piece, it’s actually less of a bargain than the LEGO Sonic Speedster Lightning set.
Comparing this LEGO Sonic set to the LEGO Animal Crossing line shows a similar pattern. The 2025 LEGO Animal Crossing Stargazing with Celeste set cost $9.99 but included only 78 pieces and one minifigure, meaning each piece cost about 12.8 cents. Although the rare Celeste minifigure makes this Animal Crossing set appealing to collectors, the build itself is fairly simple and uninspired.
Looking at LEGO sets outside of video game collaborations really highlights how good the LEGO Sonic range is. LEGO Star Wars is generally considered one of the most expensive lines, and the new The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Speeder Bike set, releasing January 1st, proves this point. It costs $9.99 but only includes 58 pieces, meaning you’re paying about 17.2 cents per piece. While it’s a cool set featuring two popular Star Wars characters, it doesn’t offer great value for your money, particularly when you compare it to the LEGO Sonic sets launching on the same day.
