LEGO Star Wars Smart Play Sets Price, Details, and What You Need to Know

LEGO is now taking pre-orders for its new line of interactive Star Wars Smart Play sets. These smaller builds use special “Smart Brick” technology to create realistic, movie-like experiences. Although a bit expensive for their size, these sets – launching on March 1st – offer a level of detail and immersion never before seen in LEGO Star Wars kits.

LEGO’s new Smart Play system is designed to take the classic building experience to the next level. At its heart is the Smart Brick – a standard-looking 2×8 brick that contains a tiny computer, sensors for sound, light, and movement, and wireless charging. This brick communicates with special LEGO pieces – Smart Tags and Smart Minifigures – to create exciting effects like sounds and reactions to how kids play, bringing a whole new dimension to building since LEGO began in 1949.

The most elaborate and costly set is the Throne Room Duel & A-Wing Interactive Building Toy, featuring 962 pieces and a price of $159.99. It offers a deeply immersive experience with two Smart Bricks and a charger. The finished model measures over 5.5 inches tall, 19 inches wide, and 11.5 inches deep, and each Smart Brick takes about 45 minutes to charge. This set lets fans recreate the famous battle from Return of the Jedi between Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, and Darth Vader. It includes Smart Minifigures of all three characters, plus two Imperial Guards. The Smart Bricks allow the Minifigures to make lightsaber humming sounds and interact with each other, responding to their presence and actions.

Beyond the characters and lightsabers, the special effects extend to iconic elements like the A-Wing, Death Star turrets, and the Emperor’s throne. These will light up and make sounds based on what’s happening nearby. This set is designed for builders age 9 and up, works with the LEGO Smart Assist App for simple control, and includes a microphone that could add even more features in a future update.

Next up is Luke Skywalker and his Red Five X-Wing! This interactive building toy, priced at $89.99, lets you build Luke’s iconic starfighter from Star Wars with 581 pieces. The finished model is over 2 inches tall, 8.5 inches long, and 7.5 inches wide. It even includes a special Smart Brick that adds light and sound effects – you’ll hear the laser cannons firing, the engine roaring, and get sounds for refueling and repairs. The model reacts to movement thanks to a built-in accelerometer, making for a truly immersive experience.

This LEGO set includes Luke and Leia minifigures, and a special “Smart Brick” that lets them interact with each other and the set itself. A Stormtrooper and a Rebel soldier are also included, along with an R2-D2 that lights up and makes sounds when connected to the Smart Brick. While R2-D2 isn’t a “Smart” minifigure, it still responds to play! Designed for builders ages 6 and up, this set features a built-in microphone and works with the LEGO Smart Assist App, just like the throne room set. You can also use Smart Tags to activate features on the included Imperial turret, transporter, and command center.

LEGO Star Wars Smart Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter Interactive Building Toy (473 Pieces, $69.99)

The finished model is over 4 inches tall, 4 inches long, and 5.5 inches wide. When you place the included Smart Brick on the ship’s designated tag, it activates lights and sounds, simulating engine noise, lasers, and even refueling – just like with Luke’s X-Wing.
