As a long-time gamer with fond memories of Super Mario World, I couldn’t be more excited about LEGO’s latest announcement! The new LEGO Mario & Yoshi set is a dream come true for me. Growing up, Super Mario was an essential part of my childhood, and now LEGO is bringing those nostalgic visuals to life in brick form.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2024’s opening on October 1st, LEGO unveiled a fresh addition to its LEGO Super Mario collection: the LEGO Mario & Yoshi set. This is the fifth installment in the adult-focused LEGO Super Mario series from LEGO.
LEGO Says that: “This is the first-time fans will see Mario’s trusted companion, Yoshi in 2D LEGO brick form. The LEGO Super Mario Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi (71438) set pays homage to Nintendo’s classic video game, Super Mario World and is built in multiple layers to enable eye-catching animation effects. The nostalgic visuals from the earlier generation of the Super Mario games are also reflected in the new set, featuring pixelated Mario and Yoshi figures.”
As a gamer and paraphrasing Carl Merriam’s words in my own way: I, as a Senior Designer, aimed to bring back the authentic sprite animation from Super Mario World in our latest design. To accomplish this, we painstakingly recreated the pixel art using LEGO bricks and engineered a mechanism that lets Yoshi run with Caped Mario hitching a ride on his back. And to add an extra layer of excitement, we included a dial for controlling Yoshi’s tongue pop-in and out, just like in the classic game!
After constructing a LEGO set, such as The Mighty Bowser or Piranha Plant from the LEGO Super Mario collection, builders can take pride in its role as an attractive display piece. These models are included in the “Adults Welcome” series, which is specifically intended to evoke nostalgia for LEGO enthusiasts who recall Super Mario as a cherished part of their childhood memories.
As an excited fan, I’d express it this way: I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of a new set, suitable for adults aged eighteen and above. The price tag is £114.99, which is equivalent to €129.99 for my European friends. This set boasts an impressive 1215 pieces! In terms of size, it stands tall at over 15.5 inches (or 40 cm) high, and spreads wide with a width of approximately 10 inches (26 cm). Its depth measures around 4 inches (11 cm) as well.
