LEGO’s Best Sets are Still on the Way, And My Wallet Isn’t Ready

LEGO has had a fantastic year so far in 2026! They kicked things off with a really popular set, then introduced the initial version of their new LEGO Smart Play system, and recently released LEGO Pokemon sets, including a large display featuring the first Pokemon evolutions. But the year isn’t over yet – even more amazing LEGO sets are coming, and I’m really excited to see them!

For LEGO and Pokémon fans, there’s much more to come than the sets released earlier this year. The LEGO Pikachu, Eevee, and Blastoise/Charizard/Venusaur sets were just the beginning of this exciting partnership. Many more sets are planned, with new details appearing almost every month.

Every LEGO Pokemon Set Rumored for 2026

Nearly a dozen new LEGO Pokémon sets are expected to be released by the end of 2026, and they generally fall into two main categories.

LEGO Smart Play Hits the Pokemon Brand

The first LEGO Pokémon set uses a new technology called Smart Play, which debuted earlier this year with some LEGO Star Wars sets. Smart Play revolves around a special brick—called the Smart Brick—that connects with other pieces to create sounds and lights. For instance, placing a Smart Brick inside a Millennium Falcon set could play engine noises, blaster sounds, or even voices from the ship’s crew.

Several LEGO Pokémon sets are designed to work with the Smart Play system, but currently, only one is confirmed to include the Smart Brick. Since the Smart Brick is essential for the system to function, it’s a bit of a letdown that it won’t be in more sets. However, this information is based on early leaks and could potentially change.

I’m really excited about the LEGO Smart Play sets, especially since they include some of my favorite Pokémon! The Mewtwo Lab set really stands out to me – anything with Mewtwo is usually interesting, like in the movie Detective Pikachu. I also love the adorable Riolu and Scorbunny, and I’m glad they’re each getting their own set. While some of the sets seem to focus a lot on the original Kanto starters, I get why – the huge $650 LEGO Pokémon set only included the final evolutions and was incredibly expensive.

Here are all of the rumored LEGO Smart Play sets:

  • Squirtle’s Training Buggy Adventure
  • Charmander’s Wild Encounter with Geodude
  • Pikachu’s Training House (Includes Smart Brick)
  • Cubone vs Gengar’s Ghost Challenge
  • Jolteon vs Charizard
  • Eevee Evolution
  • 7Dojo House and Riolu
  • Mewtwo Lab
  • Scorbunny Evolution
  • Stadium Bus

Brick-Built Pokemon are LEGO’s Other Summer Play

Besides the interactive Smart Play LEGO Pokémon sets, some more traditionally-built sets are coming soon. These include models of Rayquaza, Munchlax, and Arcanine, which appear to be reasonably sized. They’re expected to be fairly inexpensive, with each set containing fewer than 1,200 pieces.

I expect the new LEGO Pokémon sets – there are three coming out – will be like the first one, the LEGO Eevee. That set wasn’t too big, only about 750 pieces, and it was reasonably priced for a LEGO kit. Interestingly, you could use the Eevee pieces to build a Bidoof too, so I’m wondering if these new sets will also have alternate build possibilities.

The final major LEGO Pokémon set expected this year is a $250 Poké Ball that opens to reveal a detailed scene inside. While it’s likely to be a popular set, the most exciting part is that it will include specially sculpted Pokémon figures – possibly the first of their kind in this LEGO collaboration. Unlike previous LEGO Pokémon like Pikachu, which were built from bricks, these will be unique minifigures, making the set highly desirable for collectors, no matter the cost.

LEGO had a strong start to 2026 with popular sets like LEGO Pokémon and the Legend of Zelda collection, but I believe the most exciting releases are still ahead. I’m particularly interested to see how people respond to the new Smart Play sets – even if you’re not interested in the interactive features, they seem to offer something for all LEGO fans. Plus, the new Poké Ball set is likely to be a real standout, just like the previous Pokémon sets featuring Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.
