Lies of P: Overture Director Reveals How to Seamlessly Play the Expansion After the Base Game

Summary

  • Players can seamlessly transition to Lies of P: Overture from the base game.
  • The DLC and base game are highly intertwined for a holistic Lies of P experience.

Director Ji-won Choi has shared insights about smoothly transitioning players into the upcoming DLC following some gameplay of the base version. As a prequel to the 2023 action-RPG game, titled Lies of P: Overture, this expansion deepens the original storyline and is scheduled for release in Summer 2025 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

Overture”, this expansion is set before the events of the original game and follows P as they take down enemies while uncovering secrets from the past, before Gepetto’s puppets became chaotic.

In an interview with Xbox, the director of Lies of P and its DLC, Ji-won Choi, clarified whether it was necessary to complete the main game before starting the expansion, Overture. He explained that a player could progress up to almost Chapter 9 in the base game to ensure a smooth transition into the expansion. Without disclosing specifics, Choi mentioned that the understanding and skills acquired up until that point in the story would enable an easy shift into Lies of P: Overture. However, he assured that players who had already completed the game could also look forward to a “satisfying” experience, emphasizing that the post-launch content was designed for both new and returning players.

Lies of P: Overture Director Talks About the Forthcoming Expansion

Choi emphasized during an interview that the DLC for Lies of P, rather than being standalone, is strongly connected with the base game. He explained that playing both releases together would provide a more complete experience of Lies of P, as it’s intended to be played in this way.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed some striking similarities between Neowiz’s game, Lies of P: Overture, and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. Since Lies of P seems to have drawn inspiration from Elden Ring, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume that there might be parallels with the expansions developed by the Elden Ring team in the past. Whether these potential similarities can help Neowiz recreate the success seen in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s company’s DLCs, like Shadow of the Erdtree, remains to be seen as we eagerly await the game’s release.
