The recent news about Deck Nine Games laying off staff for the second time this year is disheartening, to say the least. It’s like watching a beloved character in a game being unceremoniously killed off, leaving a void that’s hard to fill.

Deck Nine Studios, creators behind Life is Strange: Double Exposure and other Life is Strange titles, have regrettably shared that they are reducing their workforce for a second time this year.

Late on Friday afternoon, I felt compelled to share some disappointing news coming from our Colorado-based studio, which left me feeling quite sad.

Today, I regretfully announce that we’re parting ways with some of our exceptional team members. This choice was not easy and underscores the tough circumstances many businesses in our field are experiencing now. We can’t thank enough each person who brought their dedication, passion, and commitment to creating groundbreaking entertainment alongside us.

2024 witnessed a significant job loss in the gaming industry, with approximately 14,600 confirmed positions eliminated across over 175 companies. However, taking into account unannounced layoffs, the actual figure surpasses 16,000 according to TopMob’s reports. Just this week, it was revealed that nearly 300 employees at Ubisoft are being dismissed as they close down XDefiant.
