Deck Nine Games and Square Enix have officially confirmed the next installment in the Life is Strange series: Life is Strange: Reunion. The game continues the story after the events of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, bringing back fan-favorite characters Max Caulfield and Chloe Price.
The launch of Life is Strange: Double Exposure was met with a divided response from fans. Some players were disappointed with how the game portrayed the relationship between Max and Chloe. Others, including myself, felt the game leaned too heavily into a Marvel-style format, even copying the end credits from a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Despite these concerns, there were positive aspects, like the story’s potential and the hint that Max’s story would continue. The new Life is Strange game builds on these elements.
Max and Chloe Return in Life is Strange: Reunion
”Thrilling Finale…A Second Chance”
In Life is Strange: Reunion, Max faces a new challenge when a fire breaks out at Caledon University. As she copes with the aftermath, Chloe Price unexpectedly returns, seeking Max out. While Chloe claims losing Max was her biggest mistake – though that might be an overstatement considering what happened in Arcadia Bay – she also needs Max’s help with disturbing nightmares and confusing memories. The game’s livestream revealed that Max’s actions in Double Exposure – merging timelines – brought back a version of Chloe who exists between both realities.

In Life is Strange: Reunion, players can control Chloe Price and shape her relationship with Max however they choose. It’s unclear how the game will resolve Chloe’s story, particularly if players remember the original game where she died. Hopefully, the developers will handle this sensitive storyline with care as players experience this new installment.
Despite concerns about the story and how much control players have, it’s unexpected to see Deck Nine and Square Enix making another game. Sales for Life is Strange: Double Exposure were significantly lower than expected, which means Deck Nine and Square Enix either strongly believe in this new approach or want to finish this part of the Life is Strange story properly. Fans will have to wait and see, and even if some are disappointed with the changes, there’s still a chance the series can regain its popularity. Anything is possible, after all.
