In Dragon Kart, you have three Grand Prix tournaments to participate in and a solitary questline to finish. Furthermore, there’s a Duel mode, which resembles Mario Kart’s Battle Mode, allowing you to employ power-ups to outmaneuver your opponents in a free-for-all until only one player remains victorious.

Location And Overview

Dragon Kart can be found in the Anaconda Harbor Park area of Honolulu, specifically on Harbor Street, directly opposite the Ounabara Vocational School, which is situated within the Harbor Park region.

Upon arrival, you can engage with Ran, a character who might be familiar to you from the games Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Like a Dragon Gaiden. She is a central Non-Player Character connected to the mini-game and its associated quests, offering rewards in exchange for points accumulated by completing activities within the mini-game.

If you’ve ever played a game like Mario Kart, you should find Dragon Kart quite familiar. Although the mini-game might seem straightforward, there are distinct features that make it unique compared to other racing games.

  • Each kart has a health bar. If it drops to 0 during a race, you’ll crash and lose significant time.
  • You’ll find Dragon Rings throughout the course to recover health and earn points.
  • No matter how good of a driver you are, item pickups and booster tracks are essential to winning a race.

Dragon Kart Modes: Grand Prix

There are three modes in Dragon Kart, each with its unique challenges to overcome.

Initially, the Grand Prix follows a progressive pattern, pitting you against nine other competitors in a race across a track. The Resort Cup serves as your introductory event.

Triumphing at the Resort Cup grants you access to the Urban Cup next, which is followed by the Festival Cup. As you progress, the maps become more intricate and the challenges grow tougher.

To guarantee a first-place finish consistently, always utilize the speed-enhancing rail boosters, since even a casual brush can provide a substantial velocity increase.

Dragon Kart Modes: Duel

In the beginning, Duel mode is shown as a mystery symbol. However, once you successfully complete the Resort Cup, you’ll unlock the Dragon Kart side quest.

In a Duel, you compete against a specified group of opponents. Your goal is to outlast them all while wielding unlimited ammunition for machine guns and various power-ups strategically placed within a compact, confined battlefield. The winner is the one who survives until the end.

During any duel, it’s crucial to keep moving. Try circling around or even tracing a figure eight pattern. This helps you gather power-ups while avoiding the risk of remaining stationary, which could lead to being targeted and eliminated.

Dragon Kart Modes: Time Attack

In conclusion, Time Attack is a common feature in racing games where players compete individually against their own best times while aiming to finish races swiftly and optimally.

Few individuals show significant interest in Time Attack, since it’s primarily utilized for honing skills and boasting accomplishments.

Power-Ups

As I speed through the course, I come across special power-up boxes scattered about. Grabbing these can give me a significant edge over my competitors in the heat of the race!

  • Gatling Gun: Fire a volley of 20 bullets in a straight line in front of you. Requires aiming.
  • Rocket Launcher: Deals moderate damage to the racer in front of you. Has decent tracking.
  • Nitro Boost: Gives you a boost.
  • Satellite Laser: Summons a laser that damages and slows down every opponent. Rare.
  • Barrier Coating: Summons a temporary shield that protects you from all damage.
  • Ring Box: Instantly gives you 10 coins. Can replenish health.
If you’re already somewhat decent in racing games, the

Boost power-up is the only worthwhile item to get,
as it can ensure you’re always first. But if you’re struggling at second place or below and constantly crashing, the other items might be of more use to you.

In most races, opponents will aim to reduce your vitality with continuous gunfire. Utilizing the Shield boost or collecting Dragon Charms can assist in maintaining your wellbeing.

How To Unlock New Dragon Karts

In the ‘Kart Setup’ section on the primary menu, you’ll initially have access to three karts: Lost Rider, Crimson Fire, and Navy Fang. As you progress through Dragon Kart battles and finish the side stories, you’ll be able to unlock additional karts, a key step if your goal is to get the best kart in the game.

Car Unlock Condition
Ignition Shadow Defeeat Go-Kart Grandpa’s Elimination Duel
Rapid Phantom Defeat Elulu and Yappi’s Elimination Duel
Rumble Crasher Defeat Daisy’s Elimination Duel
Rising Dragon Defeat Ran’s Elimination Duel
Legend Wave Defeat the Robo Michio Army’s Elimination Duel

Among all Karts in the minigame, Legend Wave stands out as the top choice due to its superior statistics. It amplifies the functionality of each power-up by offering double boosts and enhanced ammo supply. Additionally, it comes equipped with an automatic boost feature at the race’s onset if you maintain pressure on the accelerator during the countdown.

How To Complete Substories

After successfully concluding the “Dragon Kart in Paradise” side-story by participating and winning all six events (three tournaments and three duel matches), you’ll progress to the next chapter, “The Fastest in Hawaii“, where you find yourself competing against Ran. Boasting about her status as the Dragon Girl, she expresses her longing to return to racing.

In the style of a typical sprint, Ran’s Elimination Duel is set on the Harbor Sunset Tour track. The objective is to outpace her in a one-on-one competition. Keep in mind, she’s both swift and relentless while racing.

How To Beat Ran

Unlike other racers you’ve bested, Ran is quick and assertive on the track, skillfully navigating sharp curves and swiftly firing machine gun rounds at you when she’s ahead. Moreover, her health bar is unusually large, which means colliding with her isn’t an option.

Since it adheres to Duel rules where a crash results in an immediate defeat, it’s crucial to evade her attacks at every opportunity.

Rather than following closely behind her, it would be wiser to strive for speed and maintain a safe distance once you reach the lead. This is because she may shoot at you and could cause an accident if you stay too close.

Here’s my take:

As a fan, I’d advise you to grab as many Nitro Boosts as possible and hop onto booster rails when you can. These power-ups will give you the speed boost needed to maintain distance from her attacks, ensuring your safety. Don’t forget to collect Dragon Rings too; they not only help in restoring health but also reward you with additional points!

After you defeat Ran, she along with the other competitors will celebrate by honoring you as the quickest racer in Hawaii with a victory party.

As a gamer, I find myself suddenly confronted by Robo Michio Army, who’ve crashed the party and issued a final challenge – an Elimination Duel. They’re kicking off “The Path to Speed” substory, it seems. Let’s see if I can keep up!

How To Beat Robo Michio Army

When confronting the Robo Michio Army, it’s reassuring to know that they don’t always act in unison against you, since their functioning still adheres to the ‘every man for himself’ principle.

In this battle, you’ll be tested on your accurate driving skills and your knack for handling power-ups such as the Rocket Launcher, Satellite Laser, and Barrier Coating, which are strategically placed across the arena.

The Duel requires you to demonstrate both your precise driving technique and your ability to use various power-ups effectively. The arena holds three items: the Rocket Launcher, Satellite Laser, and Barrier Coating.

It’s best to circle the arena while continuously collecting Barrier Coating, as it provides temporary invincibility. Maintain this strategy until the other Michio robots destroy each other. Then, you can defeat the remaining ones by repeatedly using Satellite Laser.

After overcoming the Michio Army and finishing the side story called “‘The Path to Speed’“, you will gain access to the finest Kart in the entire game, thus wrapping up the primary experience that Dragon Kart offers.
