Lingering Questions We Have After The End Of Sonic the Hedgehog 3

As a longtime fan of Sonic the Hedgehog and someone who has spent countless hours playing video games and watching animated series, I must say that “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” was an absolute delight to watch! The film is packed with action, humor, and heart, and it manages to capture the spirit of the beloved franchise perfectly.

In the game “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, there’s no delay in starting the action. It commences in Japan where Shadow is imprisoned. He manages to escape, creates a diversion, and subsequently, Team Sonic is summoned to intervene in Japan’s situation. However, Shadow proves to be too formidable for them.

Who is Shadow? Does he have an ally? Why does Dr. Robotnik seem to be watching Spanish soap operas lately? These are all intriguing queries. Some of them are addressed, while others remain unanswered, in the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3. With a sequel already approved, we’ll find out if they address these lingering questions in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Be aware that spoilers are present.

7. The Lack Of Security In Japan

We Need More Guys

The film initiates with Shadow confined within a human-built structure suspended over the Japanese ocean. Upon regaining consciousness, Shadow engages in combat with approximately a dozen soldiers. One observer comments they require additional personnel, but his underling asserts that was all. It’s puzzling given Shadow’s ability to harness Chaos Energy, comparable to a nuclear weapon. One might expect more than a dozen individuals to confront him. Additionally, it remains unclear why, after half a century, Shadow suddenly awakens.

6. Metal Sonic And Amy

It’s Hammer Time!

The film started off with the introduction, however, it concluded with the emergence of two significant characters. Initially, Sonic was confronted by Metal Sonic, followed swiftly by a horde of about a dozen others that materialized from a chilling mist. It was then that Amy entered the scene, using her hammer to smash them all apart.

In terms of the video games, both Metal Sonic and Amy Rose debuted in Sonic CD. However, regarding the Sonic movie universe, who created the Metal Sonics and where did Amy originate are questions yet to be answered.

5. Where Did Shadow Come From?

Is He Still Alive?

Fifty years ago, a mysterious hedgehog arrived on Earth aboard a meteorite. He’s unsure about his origin or why he was on that celestial body. Despite resembling Sonic the Hedgehog from the popular movie franchise, which hails from the Green Hill Zone, this isn’t necessarily true for our enigmatic character. It’s plausible that Amy and Shadow could have a shared origin. In the video games, it’s revealed that Shadow was manufactured by Professor Robotnik, a relative of Dr. Robotnik. The lore of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 leaves room for speculation about Shadow and Amy’s background in future film installments.

4. What Led To Maria Dying?

Was Gerald Hiding Something

At a subsequent point in the story, we find Gerald, Dr. Robotnik’s grandfather, guiding Maria and Shadow out of the research facility. He informs them that G.U.N. intends to discontinue the Shadow project and seize Shadow permanently. This action triggers an explosion resulting in Maria’s death. However, it remains uncertain whether G.U.N.’s intentions towards the Shadow project are malicious or if Gerald is actually being truthful in his statement. As Gerald later reveals his true villainous nature, it leaves room for speculation that there might be missing pieces to this puzzle. Perhaps Gerald was aggressively pursuing more power and G.U.N. aimed to halt his mania. Alternatively, he could have been innocent initially but succumbed to darkness.

3. Where Are The Rest Of The Robotniks?

And Did Ivo Survive?

Fans might speculate that Dr. Robotnik is actually a clone of his grandfather due to their strong resemblance. The creator Gerald never discusses the family background of Dr. Robotnik, which raises questions about who his parents were. It’s possible Maria and Dr. Robotnik are siblings, or perhaps they have different mothers – one giving birth to Maria while the other had Dr. Robotnik (Ivo). The exact relationships among the characters remain unclear, and it’s uncertain if Dr. Robotnik survived. However, since Shadow managed to escape, there’s a strong possibility he played a role in saving Dr. Robotnik as well.

2. Who Is Director Rockwell?

And The Keycard Mystery

One significant addition to the film’s cast is Director Rockwell. As a part of G.U.N., she appeared to be under Commander Walters, taking over his position following his demise. The role is portrayed by Krysten Ritter, who might be familiar to Marvel enthusiasts as the lead character Jessica Jones from the Netflix series.

In “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, it gives an impression that Commander Walters may not fully trust Sonic or G.U.N, suggesting a possible association between Gerald and Shadow. However, Director Rockwell turned out to be honest in the end, so why did Commander Walters choose to give the keycard to Sonic rather than her own agency? Despite some questionable dealings, Director Rockwell’s character development was insufficient in the movie, leaving much of her backstory and purpose unanswered. Will we see her again in future installments?

1. Knuckles Leaving The Master Emerald With Wade

What Was He Thinking?

Knuckles can be said to be all muscle and no brain as he often talks with his fists. He does have a lot of heart though and trusts his friends implicitly even though sometimes he shouldn’t. For example, he left the Master Emerald with Wade as if he could protect it from anyone who tried to get ahold of it. Wade can humorously be seen playing hockey with it in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which should have created some sort of chaotic event. Wouldn’t slapping the Master Emerald activate it or maybe it only reacts to Sonic’s animal race of beings? Also, why would Knuckles leave it with a human at all even if Wade is a standup guy? The Master Emerald is basically another nuke just like Shadow.
