Locations Other Than Hammerfell That TES 6's Trailer Could Tease

As a long-time fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the vast and intricately designed worlds that Bethesda Game Studios has brought to life. With each new title in the franchise, I’ve eagerly anticipated the next chapter in Tamriel’s rich lore, immersing myself in its complex politics, diverse cultures, and fantastical landscapes.

Six years have passed since The Elder Scrolls 6 was initially unveiled at E3 2018, leaving fans in suspense about the game’s intriguing world that was shown in the teaser trailer. Although some believe they spotted Hammerfell in the footage, a province known for its rugged terrain and Redguard inhabitants, it remains uncertain whether this will be the primary setting of the game. The vast Tamriel landscape, with numerous zones displaying similar characteristics, keeps speculation alive about other possibilities.

In the tradition of Daggerfall, which is set in the Iliac Bay between High Rock and Hammerfell, it’s possible that players could revisit a largely procedurally generated version of Tamriel. Although High Rock and Hammerfell haven’t been the focus of a mainline game since Morrowind’s groundbreaking innovations, the rich environmental variety of High Rock makes it a strong contender for the location of TES6 instead of Hammerfell.

Hammerfell is Still Unconfirmed for The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda’s Potential Development Priorities

In the context of being well-known for its desert landscapes, it might seem unexpected in the trailer for TES6 to showcase a significant portion of Hammerfell that seems dominated by mountains and a coastline. While Hammerfell does have varied terrain, other areas in Tamriel share similar characteristics with high peaks and coastal regions. This could mean a revisit to the Iliac Bay or an exploration of an unexplored part of Hammerfell, but it’s also possible that these mountainous areas are not even part of the game’s plans for Hammerfell in TES6. The mention of Hammerfell in relation to TES6 might not have even been a topic if not fueled by rumors.

It appears that Starfield was Bethesda’s main project until its release in the previous year. Since then, the team has been dedicating more resources to Elder Scrolls 6. A developer’s Pinterest board featuring Hammerfell-inspired design elements, such as clothing and wildlife styles, has generated buzz about this potential focus for the concept art team. However, with the project likely still in its infancy, it remains uncertain if these designs represent the entirety of Hammerfell in Elder Scrolls 6.

Places Where The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Be Set Besides Hammerfell

In Tamriel, it’s common to find port areas. The coastline displayed for TES6 could be any coastal region in various provinces. High Rock, with its predominantly coastal borders, is just one possibility. Additionally, Cyrodiil and the unexplored Summerset Isles have their own attractive coastal landscapes that could fit this description.

In the world of “Oblivion,” the Gold Coast’s vibrant role in trade and its ability to evolve over time make it an intriguing setting for a next-generation RPG. Conversely, the Summerset Isles, an unexplored archipelago in “ESO,” could have immense narrative significance due to the increasing power of the Thalmor.

Instead of focusing only on the areas in Tamriel that strongly match the scenery from The Elder Scrolls 6 trailer, there are other possibilities due to the unclear details revealed. Based on the diverse landscape elements displayed, any of the following regions in Tamriel and beyond could be plausible locations:

  • High Rock
  • Gold Coast (Western Cyrodiil)
  • Summerset Isles
  • Elsweyr
  • Valenwood
  • Akavir
