Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Producer Reveals All Changes Made to Original Mode

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the upcoming release of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has me quite intrigued. The original game was a delightful blend of humor, action, and zombie-slaying fun, and it’s always exciting to see a classic get a fresh coat of paint.

As a gamer excited about Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, I’m eager to delve into the details of its Original mode, which is set to offer some fresh twists ahead of the game’s upcoming release this month. The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012, saw me stepping into the shoes of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader-zombie hunter, battling hordes of the undead in a wacky adventure penned by James Gunn, who would later become a filmmaker for Marvel and DC. This cult classic was developed by Goichi “Suda51” Suda’s Grasshopper Manufacture. In 2022, Dragami Games unveiled plans to remaster this game, titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, with a scheduled release on September 12.

The creator of Dragami Games, Yoshimi Yasuda, who is also the producer of ‘Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP’, has clarified on Twitter about the game’s two modes. He explained that the Original mode will preserve the violence, cutscenes, and aesthetic from the 2012 version of ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’. Yasuda mentioned that there were no demands to alter anything from any platforms. However, the Original mode will undergo tweaks in attack strength, movement speed, camera maneuverability, combo input acceptance time, and starting combo skills to make it more compatible with contemporary action games.

Yoshimi Yasuda Explains Lollipop Chainsaw REPOP’s Original Mode

Yasuda then went into more specific detail about what is being tweaked in Lollipop Chainsaw REPOP‘s Original mode. The number of shots in Juliet’s Chainsaw Blaster has been adjusted, as well as the behavior of Nick’s special moves. Quick-time events can now be set to trigger automatically, Ranking mode has been changed to a time attack that plays through all stages, the lineup and prices of items in the Chop2Shop.zom store have been adjusted, a chain attack system has been added, and image quality, resolution, and framerates have all been enhanced. Finally, voice work from actor Yukari Tamura will be available as one of the four different voice options for Juliet.

In preparation for the September launch of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, Yoshimi Yasuda made certain adjustments. For instance, he altered the final cutscene from the Chet (or “Zombie Big Chicken”) battle to align with scenes from other encounters, and ensured that chainsaw marks would be visible on various surfaces like walls. It’s been announced that Dragami Games will release a Day One patch for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, but Yasuda clarified that this is primarily to eliminate bugs and make minor enhancements to the new ranking mode.
