Looking for Bempu Walkthrough - Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours poured into the Legend of Zelda series, I must say that the side quests in “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” are not just mere distractions but rather intricate pieces of the game’s lore. The hide-and-seek quest “Looking for Bempu” is a delightful detour that offers a unique perspective on the Faron Wetlands and its inhabitants, the Deku Scrubs.

In the lush Faron Wetlands, as depicted in “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”, dwell the Deku Scrubs – a unique species from the “Legend of Zelda” universe, initially introduced in “Ocarina of Time”. Their abode, Scrubton, is under threat due to a colossal rift that has surfaced within their village. Once you’ve resolved this predicament, you’ll be able to undertake several side missions within Faron Wetlands. One such quest is titled “Looking for Bempu”, which involves playing hide-and-seek with a Deku named… Bempu! It’s a straightforward task offering a modest reward, so here’s a guide on how to locate each of his hiding spots in “Echoes of Wisdom”.

Where is Bempu Hiding?

Approach Bempu and his companion who are located west-southwest from Scrubton Jail, the place where Zelda was imprisoned during the “A Rift in the Faron Wetlands” quest. There should be a red side mission marker (“Friendly warning!”) floating above Bempu’s head. If you don’t see this marker, it means that you haven’t yet resolved the rift at Sweet Spot or obtained Farore’s Sanction. It seems that Bempu and their friend are having a heated disagreement, and Zelda unfortunately finds herself caught up in their playful game of tag. To stop their squabble, try finding Bempu first.

With Bempu, they offer you four clues about their location, providing one for every spot you discover. Once you locate Bempu, employ Tri’s “Bind Ability” (X-button) to lift them out of the ground. You can recognize Bempu by their distinctive red “mohawk” shaped leaves.

The list of hints Bempu gives you are:

  • “Friendly hint! You’ll find me near the trendiest shop in town.”
  • “Friendly hint! You’ll find me near a lake that’s a symbol of love!”
  • “Friendly hint! You’ll find me between four stone siblings!”
  • “Friendly hint! You’ll find me near a home that used to be covered in dark thorns!”

In Scrubton, the most fashionable shop on the block is known as the Smoothie Shop. A few feet in front of it, there’s a sneaky character named Bempu who has chosen to hide beneath the ground.

The heart-shaped lake, a symbol of love, is where you rescued the Deku couple from the rift. In the northwestern part of this lake lies Bempu, hidden in the soil.

By taking a closer look at the map, you’ll discover four “markers” that signify ruins in the northern part of Faron Wetlands. Bempu is located right in the center of a platform with four pillars, where he was buried. To get to Bempu, start from the “Sweet Spot” and travel westward. The path will eventually lead you to his hidden location.

Ultimately, the “house once overgrown with thorns” stands for Blossu’s residence. This was the Deku Scrub, adorned with a rafflesia-like cap, and it’s the spot where Zelda and Tri were detained for closing the rift. Bempu is concealed not far from the Waypoint statue, lurking outside Blossu’s house.

Following the fourth removal of Bempu, they will make amends with their friend. In return for your assistance, you’ll be given a ‘Fairy Scent’ Trinket as a token of gratitude. This trinket can be worn to boost the chances of encountering fairies when trimming plants or grass. It’s particularly handy if you need to refill your Fairy Bottles or are low on health and prefer not to use a Bed Echo or consume a smoothie. It’s a more potent version compared to the ‘Fairy Bloom Accessory’, which you may or may not have acquired by the end of the quest “In Search of Bempu.
