‘Lord of Mysteries’: Fans Claim It Surpasses Solo Leveling in Story and Character Depth

This post contains minor spoilers for Lord of Mysteries.

Summary

  • Lord of Mysteries has potential to surpass Solo Leveling with its refined story and character depth.
  • The characters in Lord of Mysteries have more oomph and depth compared to those in Solo Leveling.
  • Lord of Mysteries is gaining popularity quickly, surpassing Solo Leveling’s ratings and may be a candidate for Anime of the Year.

Over the past few years, “Solo Leveling” has established itself as the epitome of action-packed anime. It’s known for its rapid pace, numerous battles, and exceptional animation. The series has truly raised the bar, making it challenging for both fresh and veteran action series to compete. Yet, an upcoming anime from the Summer 2025 lineup is showing signs that it can hold its own against “Solo Leveling”.

Lord of Mysteries Could End Up Being Better Than Solo Leveling

Lord of Mysteries Is Overall Better Than Solo Leveling

  • Lord of Mysteries has a more rounded protagonist
  • Lord of Mysteries side characters are better than Solo Leveling

As a devoted fan, I must say, the “Lord of Mysteries” series has only unveiled three episodes thus far, and each one has been nothing short of exceptional! Despite the fact that the main character, Klein Moretti, may not have experienced as much combat-related growth as Sung Jinwoo, this doesn’t make the former any less impressive. In my opinion, both characters bring their unique strengths to the table, making them equally captivating in their own ways.

Instead of merely progressing and defeating powerful enemies in his storyline, Klein Moretti encounters challenges that seem more grounded in reality. He grapples with difficulties, suggesting a need for assistance from others rather than relying solely on his own strength. This change adds complexity to his character, making it less about sheer power and more about human struggles and growth.

From my perspective as a reader, it’s evident that the side characters in Lord of Mysteries outshine those from Solo Leveling significantly. This disparity is one of the main criticisms leveled at Solo Leveling. Beyond the main character, Jin-Woo Sung, the rest of the characters in the anime fail to make a lasting impression. However, there are exceptions like Cha Hae-in and Thomas Andre. Regrettably, they aren’t enough to compensate for the shallow development of most characters. Contrastingly, Lord of Mysteries boasts an array of well-developed characters such as Leonard, Amon, Roselle, Audrey, Derrick, Dwayne, and many more. It seems as if the author of Lord of Mysteries invests more time in creating compelling supporting characters, making the storyline richer overall.

Lord of Mysteries Has More Aura Than Solo Leveling

One aspect that captivates fans about Sung Jinwoo is his overwhelming presence that can momentarily halt adversaries. This characteristic undeniably adds to his cool appeal. Interestingly, Lord of Mysteries and several other story characters share this trait. For instance, the Crunchyroll page for Lord of Mysteries exudes elegance and a distinctly cool ambiance.

Throughout the narrative, Klein Moretti’s demeanor and presence evolve significantly. He grows more composed, managing even the most precarious circumstances with an impressive ease. Similarly remarkable is Leonard Mitchell, who executes perilous tasks with a cheerful disposition on his face.

Lord of Mysteries Is Going To The Top

So far, the anime “Lord of Mysteries” has only unveiled three episodes, yet the response it’s garnered is simply extraordinary. On MyAnimeList, this series boasts an impressive rating of 8.66, surpassing the first season of “Solo Leveling.” Additionally, on IMDb, “Lord of Mysteries” holds a rating of 8.9, placing it among the top-rated anime series on that platform. Given its current standing, it’s clear that “Lord of Mysteries” is a strong contender for the Anime of the Year award. As the season progresses, fans will have a better understanding of how this show stacks up against other popular titles.

Thus far, some viewers have found the initial three episodes of Lord of Mysteries moving at an accelerated pace, which they find problematic. However, there’s no need for undue concern. In a recent interview, Cuttlefish addressed this issue. He explained that the rapid pacing in the first three episodes was deliberately chosen to enhance the anime as a whole. The studio is aiming to animate one of the most significant battles from the novel, a feat that wouldn’t be feasible without the swift pace. Fans can anticipate a more evenly paced rhythm in subsequent episodes, ensuring they can appreciate the anime without any hindrances.
