Game Rant will provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation process of “Lost in Random: The Eternal Die“, focusing on its genre shift and other key aspects of the production. As of now, the upcoming sequel to “Lost in Random” has yet to be assigned a release date.
Introduced in 2021 through the EA Originals program, the initial “Lost in Random” game is an engaging action-adventure that blends RPG elements with dice-rolling and card-building systems. Players receive a magic die that decides the cards they can play at any moment, resulting in unpredictable gameplay fittingly named “Lost in Random”. Announced during Gamescom in August 2024, the sequel titled “Lost in Random: The Eternal Die” deviates from its predecessor by adopting a roguelite format.
Prior to the launch of “The Eternal Die”, developer studio Stormteller Games has released a fresh developer diary, which Game Rant is exclusively revealing. The video showcases game director Martin Storm discussing various aspects of the forthcoming title, one of them being its genre shift. Martin Storm expresses that the roguelite concept for “Lost in Random: The Eternal Die” aligns well with the game’s setting, as he notes the board game theme and how dice-rolling and roguelites inherently incorporate randomness.
The Eternal Die Has the ‘Essence’ of Lost in Random
In shifting genres from “Lost in Random” to “The Eternal Die”, the developers aimed to maintain the core spirit or heart of the original game. Martin believes they managed to achieve this goal. He attributes this accomplishment to Oskar Hanska, the narrative designer and writer of the game. You don’t need to have played the first game to enjoy “The Eternal Die”, but it will contain references to its predecessor that might pique the interest of newcomers in the story that preceded it. Similar to the initial “Lost in Random” game, “The Eternal Die” is developed using the Unity engine.
The game titled “Lost in Random: The Eternal Die” is aiming for a summer 2025 release, however, an exact date hasn’t been set yet. Additionally, details about the cost of the project have not been disclosed either. Previously, the publisher Thunderful confirmed that the game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
The roguelike concept for “Lost in Random: The Eternal Die” seems perfectly suited to the universe of “Lost in Random.
The game titled ‘Lost in Random: The Eternal Die’ is joining Xbox Game Pass as well. Just like other day-one releases, it will first be available on PC Game Pass and the Premium tier of the Microsoft subscription service initially. Eventually, it will become accessible for the Standard version of Xbox Game Pass.
