It’s possible that the game Lost Soul Aside might seem more like the action-packed series Devil May Cry than the role-playing game franchise Final Fantasy, but still, it has drawn comparisons to Square Enix’s renowned RPG series. Surprisingly, some players might have expected a turn-based JRPG experience from Lost Soul Aside, given its resemblance to the Final Fantasy universe. However, it turns out that the game offers an action-adventure hack-and-slash experience instead. While the overall visual style of the game brings to mind Final Fantasy, it’s primarily the main character, Kaser, who drives those comparisons, as he bears a striking resemblance to Noctis from Final Fantasy 15.
As I delve deeper into the game Lost Soul Aside, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the initial comparisons between Kaser and Noctis are largely superficial. Unlike Noctis, who is complex and multidimensional, Kaser appears to be nothing more than a typical hero. I can’t help but feel that he lacks substance – soul, depth, personality, and meaningful character development. Instead of being a compelling protagonist, he feels like a mere prop for me to use in defeating Voidrax. In hindsight, I wish Kaser were more like Noctis.
I Wish Lost Soul Aside’s Kaser Were More Like His Big Brother

FF15’s Noctis, Initially Written Off, Is an Incredibly Nuanced and Deep Protagonist
If anything showcases how captivating Final Fantasy 15‘s Noctis is as a main character, it’s the fact that he was once considered dull, moody, and hard to relate to. At first glance, Noctis appears quiet and somewhat detached in his behavior, giving an impression of being a one-dimensional character. However, this initial impression begins to change significantly as the latter part of Final Fantasy 15, along with its additional content, delves deeper into his character. As a result, I, and many others, came to see Noctis as a remarkably complex and deep protagonist.

Initially, Noctis struck me as an angsty, unsure teenager that I wanted to jolt awake with some tough love. But as I delved deeper into the story of Final Fantasy 15, particularly towards its climax, he grew on me and became one of my preferred Final Fantasy heroes. To be fair, he’s no Clive Rosfield, but if I had the power, he would sit by Clive’s side. What truly won me over was his development, as the narrative transformed him from a hesitant prince into a self-sacrificing king. However, it was also the game’s exploration of brotherhood that revealed Noctis to be a more robust character than I had initially recognized.
Lost Soul Aside’s Kaser Is Flat, Shallow, and Uninteresting
In my perspective as a fan, it appears that Kaser from “Lost Soul Aside” hasn’t shown much growth yet. I was hoping for some development in his character, but so far, he remains the same dark-cloaked, monotone hero I encountered in the initial chapters. It feels like an opportunity for change has been missed, given that we’ve progressed quite a bit in the story, and yet Kaser still seems stuck in his ways.
What sets him apart from other heroes is his stoic demeanor, but it’s this very characteristic that makes me yearn for more depth, for a hint of charm that would make him a truly captivating protagonist. At the moment, he lacks the personality and intrigue that would keep me invested in his journey.

In the opening of “Lost Soul Aside,” despite the hardship that befell the character, I found his suffering hard to empathize with, appearing excessive or insincere due to a perceived lack of personality depth. This character seems to be an empty spirit within a figure reminiscent of Noctis, causing me to long for the complex emotional prince and wish Kaser resembled his brother more instead. Fingers crossed that things improve later on, but as of now, it appears this trait may remain consistent.
