Near the end of Chapter 8, the game will switch to Damiane as the playable character. This might be unexpected and challenging for players unfamiliar with her, particularly those who’ve focused on Kliff. However, this guide will help you defeat Lucian Bastier using Damiane with her starting stats – no upgrades needed!
Lucian Bastier is a tough fighter, and with a new character now available, you’ll want to learn the best strategies for beating him. This includes knowing what items to use, which attacks are most effective, and how to defend against his own moves. Here’s a complete guide to help you win!
What to Bring Before Fighting Lucian Bastier in Crimson Desert
As always, you’re going to want to make sure you have some of the essentials:
- Food (Grilled Meat works great for quick and affordable health)
- Palmar Pills (Just in case you die in battle, you can revive)
If you’re new to playing Damiane, here are a few key skills that will be really useful in battle:
- Shield Toss Level 1 (Press R3 to throw a shield that strikes enemies.)
- Smiting Bolt Level 3 (Press R2 to call down a spear of light that damages enemies, cannot miss, and can be spammed at the cost of Stamina).
There’s a helpful strategy involving cheese against Lucian Bastier. When you’re facing the castle, jump onto the pillar on the left. Then, repeatedly use the Shield Throw (press R3) to prevent Lucian from attacking. During the second phase of the fight, you can either jump out of the arena or go down the stairs – he usually won’t follow you down there.
How to Beat Lucian Bastier in Crimson Desert
Attack Pattern to Use Against Lucian Bastier
- Keep your distance from Lucian Bastier.
- Spam Shield Throw (R3) while locked on to Lucian to deal safe damage.
- Use Focus (L3+R3) to regenerate Spirit to continue using Shield Throw. This also slows down the time to watch for his attacks.
- Spam Smiting Bolt (R2) to repeatedly send lightning down onto Lucian, which deals great damage and acts as a heavy attack.
- When Lucian gets too close, spam Dodge (Circle) to dash backwards.
- Alternatively, use Focus to watch for his attacks and press L1 to parry them so you can land a few safe strikes.
- Lucian is best fought from a distance due to his aggression and close-range slam attacks.
Lucian Bastier Move Set (& How to Counter Them)
- Lucian will slam his mace into the ground and send a volcanic shockwave across the ground. This needs to be dodged by going to the side.
- Lucian will charge up his mace by spinning it, where he will unleash a deadly move. You can counter this by using the Shield Throw. If he succeeds in charging the attack, you will need to dodge, as he will unleash a volley of strikes.
- Lucian will hit you with his mace two times and then finish with a third, unblockable jump attack. You can parry the first two, but must dodge the third one.
- Lucian’s invulnerable move sees him shroud the screen in darkness. He will try to juggle you with fire attacks, so spam Dodge to evade him.
How to Beat Awakened Lucian Bastier in Crimson Desert
Attack Pattern to Use Against Awakened Lucian Bastier
- Wait for Awakened Lucian to attack, then dodge it.
- Awakened Lucian should stand still or walk around for a few seconds, which is his vulnerability window.
- Focus on hard-hitting attacks, but make sure you have stamina to dodge his impending slashes.
- Shield Throw and Smiting Bolt from a distance are still both great ways to build damage and stun.
Awakened Lucian Bastier Move Set (& How to Counter Them)
- Awakened Lucian will slam his sword arm into the ground, which can be parried but has a very small window, so try to dodge more than you parry.
- Awakened Lucian will temporarily stand still, providing a great window to get a few strikes in.
- Awakened Lucian will teleport and often summon clones, which will slam the ground and disappear. If he teleports, immediately dodge to avoid him.
- You will need to play a bit more aggressively against Awakened Lucian, as his attacks are more reserved, but just as fast and deadly.
- Awakened Lucian’s main combo is a forward lunge, followed by a teleport, strike, and another teleport strike. These attacks are very fast, so dodging and evading is better than trying to parry them.
- Awakened Lucian’s invulnerable move in this phase sees him teleport and strike on repeat, so just spam dodge to counter them until he’s finished.
