In a captivating turn of events, “One Piece” resumed its journey with Chapter 1140 this week, and it’s fair to declare that this chapter was nothing short of exceptional. While the bug-related storylines didn’t advance significantly, the stage is now set for momentous occurrences in Elbaf.
Chapter 1140 of One Piece predominantly revolved around Luffy’s battle against Scopper Gaban, while concurrently introducing the appearance of two Holy Knights in the Land of Giants. This sets the scene for the second act of Elbaf, promising a significant shift in events. In essence, chapter 1140 plays a pivotal role in the storyline, and with it confirmed that One Piece won’t be on hiatus next week, its impact can only grow even more substantial.
Luffy Vs Gaban Begins
- Scopper Gaban Challenged Luffy To Take The Key From Him
- Luffy And Zoro Were Shocked To See Gaban’s Strength
In One Piece chapter 1140, the story picked up exactly where it ended last time, allowing fans to witness an extraordinary but undeniably friendly clash between Luffy and Scopper Gaban. Despite the casual nature of their fight, Gaban still managed to display a hint of his true potential. Luffy dived straight into the fray in chapter 1140 with a few grips, unfortunately coming up empty-handed when it came to getting hold of the key.
You sure like to chatter a lot, boy! — Scopper Gaban
In this fierce clash, Gaban’s remarkable Observation Haki shone through as he gracefully evaded every attack launched by Luffy. What made things even more intriguing was when Luffy intensified his attacks. In response, Gaban escalated the battle himself, countering with a potent strike using the key, which had been imbued with the Power of the Supreme King Haki – a testament to this ability was the black electric sparks and audible SFX that emanated from the key. This brief display offered fans just a hint of Gaban’s true combat potential, leaving them eager for more.

Until now, Luffy hadn’t given his full power during the fight, as he didn’t believe it was appropriate to fight Gaban. However, when Shanks became involved, Luffy took action swiftly. To provoke Luffy, Gaban showed disrespect towards Shanks, a tactic that proved effective. Although Luffy’s attacks grew more intense, Gaban effortlessly dodged them all. Even though Luffy is a Yonko, Scopper Gaban managed to humiliate him, demonstrating that despite his age and apparent decline in strength, Gaban remains a powerful adversary and a formidable figure on his own.
It became especially evident when Gaban followed up with an intense strike, called Yasotakeru, shortly after. This was the first instance where he wielded his axes in battle, and it was truly terrifying to witness. As soon as he armed himself with both weapons, Gaban launched a barrage of swift slashes at Luffy. Even though these attacks weren’t coated with Haki, they were so powerful that they caused Luffy’s body to tremble violently, causing him to shake from head to toe. This made Zoro, who wasn’t participating in the fight, break out into a sweat, urging Luffy to dodge no matter what. Furthermore, this attack had enough force to cleave through an entire section of Aurust Castle, which is comparable to a town, and even a large cloud in the sky.
Gaban Gives Up In One Piece 1140
Scopper Gaban Wanted To See Gear 5

Here’s where the exciting moments unfolded: As Luffy activated Gear 5 and Zoro triggered his Supreme King Haki, they both charged at Gaban. The elderly man, realizing his objective was achieved, surrendered. It was evident that Gaban had come to witness Gear 5 firsthand and verify the information he gathered at Laugh Tale. Impressed by Luffy’s might, his robust crewmates, and Nika personally, Gaban found nothing else worth pursuing. He handed over the key to Luffy, symbolizing his faith that Luffy could manage Loki should things take a turn for the worse.
Should the day ever arrive when Elbaf stands firm and you find yourself departing, remember to seek me out!
– Scopper Gaban
Above all, Gaban urged Luffy to find him before his departure from Elbaf, should the land remain intact. This strongly suggests that Gaban intends to share crucial details about the last Road Poneglyph with Luffy, thereby propelling the story into its concluding phase upon the conclusion of the arc.
Two More Holy Knights Appear
- Gunko Summons Two Holy Knights
- Shamrock To Return To Marijoa
In the latter part of chapter 1140 of “One Piece,” the narrative zeroed in solely on characters Gunko and Shamrock. For some time now, it’s been known that their objective was to abduct children across Elbaf. As they approached Walrus School in this specific chapter, the young students quickly identified the large bird they were riding. Later on, Gunko displayed her abilities by calling forth an additional member, yet surprisingly, not one but two Holy Knights emerged instead.
The explanation behind this situation became known, and it turned out that an additional member had been included because Shamrock was to deliver a report back to Marijoa. This directive originated from a higher authority, making it intriguing to determine whether Garling asked for his presence, given his past role as the Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights, or if it was Imu who made the request. As the narrative progresses into the next chapter of Elbaf, we’ll soon find out the truth.
Despite any differences, it’s undeniable that these two Holy Knights carry an intimidating presence. One hails from a family well-known among fans – the Shepherd clan, which includes Ju Peter as a member. The other belongs to a fresh dynasty, the Rimoshifu family, and his name is Saint Killingham. Intriguingly, we saw Saint Killingham unleash his Devil Fruit ability when he entered Elbaf in his hybrid state, revealing that he possesses a Kirin Devil Fruit. This creature, steeped in Japanese mythology, is one of the most powerful and divine, promising to be formidable indeed.
With Shamrock set to return to Marijoa, there’s a strong chance that Gunko, Killingham, and Sommers will step into the leadership role, potentially abducting the children and transporting them to the Holy Land without using the Abyss (the summoning circle) because they lack the necessary mark to traverse it. Before matters were concluded, Shamrock proposed initiating a game in Elbaf, reminiscent of the Native Hunting Games that transpired in God Valley 38 years ago, and things are poised to become even more thrilling from this point forward.
Readers can access One Piece from Viz Media officially. Fans can read it for free on Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps. Mark your calendars, as the next chapter, One Piece Chapter 1141, is due to be released on March 2, 2025.
