Summary
- Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation reveals his Devil Fruit as a Mythical Zoan with immense power.
- Chapter 1140 shows Luffy battling Scopper Gaban, highlighting the need to improve Observation Haki.
- Luffy’s potential future power boost may involve mastering all 3 Haki types, which would be crucial for facing Imu.
Luffy’s Gear Five transformation makes him resemble the legendary Sun God Nika, a character from folklore. This transformation is possible due to the unique characteristics of his Devil Fruit, which many fans initially thought was just another type called Paramecia. However, it was later revealed that this fruit is actually a rare Mythical Zoan, capable of performing extraordinary and seemingly illogical feats within the world of One Piece. Despite its immense power, we haven’t yet seen the full extent of what Luffy’s Devil Fruit can do because he has managed to easily overcome his opponents after activating it.
In contrast, Chapter 1140 of the “One Piece” manga certainly presents an unexpected obstacle. Currently, Luffy’s ability to transform into Nika stands out as the most impressive power display from any Devil Fruit, but this chapter hints that, despite this extraordinary capability, Luffy has a considerable journey ahead. Therefore, let’s delve into the reasons behind this and speculate on what fans might anticipate from Luffy by the end of the series.
Scopper Gaban vs. Luffy And Zoro In Chapter 1140
A Pirate Legend Fights The Worst Generation
Chapter Name | One Piece, Chapter 1140, “Scopper Gaban” |
---|---|
Debut Date | February 24, 2025 |
Story Arc | Elbaf |
At the close of Chapter 1139, a long-held fan theory concerning the enigmatic figure on Elbaf and the enigmatic visitor Crocus had in his cover story from previous chapters gained credence. Various speculations had swirled about the identity of this individual, yet the prevailing belief prior to confirmation was that it was none other than Scopper Gaban, the legendary left-hand man of Gol D. Roger.
Turns out what was initially hypothesized proved accurate, and quite unexpectedly, the story concluded with Scopper eager for a confrontation against Luffy, as the former aimed to secure a key to free Loki. When the clash ensued, it became evident that Scopper’s age hadn’t hindered him in any way, as he managed to engage both Luffy and Zoro simultaneously for a short while. In fact, their skirmish left them on edge throughout the encounter. Despite the battle being brief, Luffy recognized the need to switch to Gear 5 from the moment he began treating Scopper with respect.
Despite his involvement in the fight, it’s clear that Luffy has a lot more growing to do, not only in combat but also in other aspects. For instance, Scopper, the sole individual in all of Elbaf who could detect the unusual Haki radiating from Shamrock and Gunko’s summoning circle, demonstrated an Observation Haki that is unparalleled. This suggests that his Observation Hiki might be the best we’ve seen in the series so far, as no one else was able to perceive the same mysterious Haki.
In their battle with Luffy and Zoro, it seemed as though Scopper utilized Observation Haki. This was suggested by a quick close-up of his face, revealing a gleam in his eye. It’s possible that he also foresaw where this fight might head and chose to end the battle immediately afterward. This suggests a degree of foresight that exceeds what Shanks has shown, as Scopper may have peered further into the future.
If Elbaf is still safe by the time you decide to leave, come find me.
Why does this matter so much? As the story progresses towards its Grand Finale with the Elbaf arc, the adversaries will only grow more formidable, culminating in Imu, who is undoubtedly the most powerful character within this universe. To counteract this escalating threat, Luffy must amplify his power by any available means. Beyond simply punching and enhancing his strength through his Gear 5 transformation, he also needs to boost the effectiveness of all kinds of Haki, particularly Observation Haki, to maximize his chances in future battles.
In past storylines, it’s been clear that Conqueror’s and Armament Haki have been given significant attention. It seems that Observation Haki also requires equal focus to achieve mastery for the ultimate showdown. To stand a chance against Imu at the end of the series, Luffy must refine every aspect of his abilities. The highest form of Observation Haki might be the crucial missing piece in the puzzle that Luffy still needs to gather.
How Could Luffy Get A Further Power Boost?
Theories About How He Can Get Stronger
Right now, Luffy can achieve his strongest state as Gear 5, which is an enhanced version of his Devil Fruit power. Since the story isn’t over yet, it seems likely that the opponents will become increasingly powerful. Consequently, numerous fans speculate that Luffy might unlock a final form that could surpass the abilities of Gear 5.
In a different wording, it’s highly improbable and damaging to the narrative of the One Piece story if Luffy were to gain the power of Gear 5, as the entire tale revolves around the deeds of the original Nika and Joyboy who utilized Gear 5 in their respective eras. Consequently, a more plausible way for Luffy to become stronger lies in his proficient use of all three types of Haki, which he would apply while transforming with his Gear 5 ability.
One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
