Summary
- Luffy’s lineage could tie him to the infamous Rocks D. Xebec through his father, Monkey D. Dragon, who remains one of the series’ biggest mysteries.
- Monkey D. Dragon may have been Rocks’ son who was adopted by Garp after Rocks’ death in the God Valley Incident, since Garp has done something similar before.
- If true, this revelation could reshape everything fans know about Luffy and the story, perhaps even making him the inheritor of two different Wills of D.
In the realm of “One Piece”, every era is marked by a legendary pirate who gains unprecedented fame and influence worldwide, serving as an example for future pirates. Currently, several such pirates are active, but the narrative is building up Luffy to reach those heights. Prior to him, the seas were ruled by Whitebeard. Before Whitebeard, it was Gol D. Roger who left an indelible mark in history as the only Pirate King ever recognized.
Instead of introducing One Piece with a perfect beginning that only includes Captain Roger, it’s important to note that an earlier era had its own defining figure: the notorious Rocks D. Xebec. Known as one of the scariest pirates in history, he was said to be equally powerful as the Pirate King. Even though he passed away several decades ago, his impact is still noticeable – and according to some fan theories, it extends even to Luffy.
The Surprising Connection Between Luffy And Rocks
This Theory Claims That They Are Related
Luffy’s First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 1, “Romance Dawn – The Dawn of Adventure” |
---|---|
Rocks’ First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 957, “Ultimate” |
From an external perspective, it’s evident that Luffy and Rocks share a common bond as members of the famed D. Clan. At present, the significance of this lineage in the narrative hasn’t been definitively established, leading to intriguing speculation among fans about potential implications for their connection. Thus, this association remains the most apparent explanation for their relationship.
Some contend that there’s more than just a casual link between these characters. This idea proposes that they are not only connected, but share a familial tie that will be unveiled during the Final Saga. If true, this revelation would rank among the most shocking twists in the history of the One Piece story, and would fundamentally alter everything fans believe about the protagonist and the world as a whole. Yet, one might wonder, how could such a bond exist between these two?
A man dies when he’s forgotten!
Indeed, the solution here seems to revolve around another intriguing figure from the series – Monkey D. Dragon. Following the occurrences at Enies Lobby, Garp disclosed to Luffy that Dragon is his offspring, a fact that left many fans surprised, given the apparent lack of resemblance between the World’s Worst Criminal and other family members. This theory proposes that this discrepancy exists because Dragon is, in reality, the son of Rocks D. Xebec, who came under Garp’s guardianship after the God Valley Incident.
38 years prior to the story’s beginning at God Valley, it is speculated that an event similar to Garp adopting Ace occurred. While the details are unclear, what we do know is that the Rocks Pirates attacked the island following a raid by Celestial Dragons who had taken the island’s valuable treasure during their absence. This treasure could have been one of the prizes in the Native Hunting Competition.
In essence, this theory divides into two perspectives. One group argues that Dragon could have been one of the prizes because he was already 17 years old and might have possessed a legendary Devil Fruit, a possibility that the Celestial Dragons may have coveted. The other camp suggests that Dragon might have merely been abandoned by Rocks during the God Valley Incident, an event that resulted in the death of his biological father. Garp later took him in as his adoptive son following this tragedy.
In light of how Garp has acted against his foes in the past, as seen with Ace and Roger, Dragon might have initially viewed the Marines as heroes due to their role in rescuing island inhabitants. This belief could have led him to join the Navy. However, once he understood that the Navy serves primarily to uphold the power of the Celestial Dragons – a group responsible for oppressing people and killing his true father – he may have become disillusioned, eventually leading to his departure from the Marines and establishment of the Revolutionary Army, aiming to overthrow the World Nobles once and for all.
Although this theory involves a fair amount of guesswork, it fits well within the overall narrative. What’s particularly troubling is the inconsistency between Dragon and his family resemblance, given that he appears nothing like his father or son. Normally, this wouldn’t be significant, but after Chapter 957 and beyond, we get a glimpse of Rocks, who, despite being only depicted as a silhouette thus far, shares striking similarities with Dragon, from the facial structure to the hair.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that Garp rarely refers to Dragon as ‘my son’, instead using other terms when discussing him with others. However, Dragon left the Marines at 33 years old, suggesting he spent around 16 years with Garp. Given this lengthy period, it’s plausible that Garp might view Dragon as his own child. Some theories propose that Garp had a daughter who married Dragon and gave birth to Luffy, which would make Luffy Garp’s grandson and complete the theory in a circular manner.
What This Connection Could Mean For Luffy And The Series
How Would He Deal With It?
- Luffy could very likely be the grandson of Rocks, with Dragon as his father and Garp’s daughter as his mother.
- This puts him in an interesting place, with 2 versions of the Will of D. being applicable to him.
Given the progression in the series so far, it seems highly probable that Luffy is indeed Dragon’s grandson and Rocks’ offspring. If this turns out to be true, it would make for an intriguing twist, considering the Elbaf arc suggests there are two distinct interpretations of the Will of D. One stands for global freedom, while the other aims to give the wielder maximum control over the world.
Previously mentioned is the possible legacy left by Joyboy, known as the Will of D, that has been passed down to Roger, Luffy, and originally to Joyboy himself. This legacy aims to liberate the world from all forms of oppression and tyranny. On the other hand, there exists an opposing force, also claiming to be the Will of D, which seeks to overthrow the current order for the sake of controlling the world instead. This malevolent interpretation is evident among the wicked members of the D. Clan like Rocks and Blackbeard. If both versions of the Will of D are true, then Luffy would become the inheritor of both legacies, making for an intriguing scenario.
