This eagerly awaited remaster is being developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment. This duology collection will port the first two “Lunar” games to contemporary consoles, featuring improved graphics, re-recorded soundtracks, and various enhancements for a better gaming experience. The “Lunar Remastered Collection” will be accessible on all console platforms as well as PC via Steam.

Back in 2024, during a Sony State of Play event, I was thrilled to my core when the Lunar Remastered Collection was unveiled! This series, which originally started with Lunar: The Silver Star on the Sega CD back in 1992, had me hooked from the get-go. A sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue, followed in 1994. Both of these games were later remade for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn, taking the form of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete respectively. To this day, the Lunar series is revered as one of the finest RPGs on the Sega Saturn. The prospect of having remastered versions of these timeless classics in a single collection has many fans like me jumping for joy!

This release will also be compatible with current-generation consoles. For those in North America and Europe, physical editions of the game can be found at certain retailers. The revival of Lunar incorporates typical updates for modern remasters, such as widescreen compatibility, refreshed pixel art, and high-definition cinematics. Yet, for those longing for a blast from the past, a classic mode can be activated at any time to recreate the visuals of the PS1 era.

In the Lunar Remastered Collection, you’ll find fully spoken dialogue in Japanese and English, along with newly added French and German subtitles. As for gameplay, expect a speed-up command during combat and new strategies to simplify party management for auto-battle. These enhancements, aimed at improving or quickening combat, are common in modern JRPG remasters and remakes like the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster, which will also include similar features.

The Lunar series persists in reviving classic JRPGs for contemporary systems, yet it remains uncertain if the Lunar Remastered Collection will be financially successful. However, since Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment have previously collaborated to release the Grandia HD Collection on modern platforms, and are now replicating this approach with other series, their previous efforts may have been fruitful.
