Madhouse is a highly regarded animation studio known for creating excellent anime adaptations that audiences love. Recently, they’ve released two particularly successful projects, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, both of which have received widespread critical acclaim.
Many promising shows don’t find a wide audience, but Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was a clear exception. Released in September 2023, the anime quickly became incredibly popular. While the animation studio Madhouse is undoubtedly happy with Frieren’s success, they’ll likely be aiming for even greater achievements in the future.
The Studio Behind Frieren Will Release Another Anime In 2026
- Frieren Season 2 will release before Liar Game
- Madhouse is producing both the anime
Madhouse has officially announced a new anime adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani’s manga, Liar Game, scheduled for release in April 2026. Asami Kawano will direct the series, with Tatsuhiko Urahata writing the scripts. Kei Tsuchiya is responsible for the character designs, and Yugo Kanno will compose the music. The original Liar Game manga ran in Weekly Young Jump from February 2005 to January 2015.
The story centers around Nao Kanzaki and Shinichi Akiyama, who are unexpectedly entered into the Liar Game Competition. They must not only win against other players, but also expose and defeat the people running the competition.
This show relies heavily on psychological themes, meaning viewers will need to carefully follow the plot to fully understand what’s going on.
Frieren Season 2 Is Releasing In January 2026
The Second Season Is Releasing Soon
Before Madhouse can begin work on the highly anticipated anime Liar Game, they first need to focus on the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, scheduled for release in January 2026. Fans are excited for Frieren‘s return following the success of its first season, and are hoping Madhouse lives up to the high expectations.
It was initially uncertain how many episodes season two would include. While fans hoped for a season of over 20 episodes, it’s now confirmed there will be only 10. The studio decided on this shorter length to keep the story moving at a good pace and avoid getting too far ahead of the original manga, which is currently on hold.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 will be released in January 2026.
