In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, I found crafting a Mage Tank character to be quite straightforward yet incredibly flexible.
Essentially, this variant of the spellsword build is simply a more robust version of the standard one. The primary aim is to achieve exceptionally high defensive capabilities through quality armor and supportive spells that enhance these defenses. This includes self-enhancement, summoning auxiliary entities, and so forth. Yet, it allows you continuous casting of offensive spells as well!
If that sounds like fun for you, read on and we’ll give you our build recommendations.
Mage Tank Build Guide | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
First things first, let’s go over what to pick during character creation:
- Race – Breton is by far the best for a tanky mage build. You naturally get +50 Magicka and 50% Magic Resistance, which is ideal.
- Specialization – Magic.
- Favored Attributes – Intelligence and Willpower. You’ll want to focus on Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, and Endurance when leveling.
- Major Skills – Alteration, Blade, Heavy Armor, Athletics, Conjuration, Restoration, Destruction.
- Birthsign – There are two main choices we recommend here:
- The Lord – Gives you +15 Armor Rating and +15% Magic Resist. There’s nothing better if you want a focus on tanking!
- Atronach – Gives you +150 Magicka and 50% Spell Absorption. However, you’ll be unable to regenerate Magicka over time. You’ll need to rely on absorbing spells and using consumables. As an alternative to this, The Mage works too. It’s only +50 Magicka but it has no downsides.
In essence, it’s crucial to prioritize enhancing your Heavy Armor proficiency at a fast pace, as this will minimize the impact of your load-bearing capacity. The leveling process for this skill is triggered by receiving damage when donning Heavy Armor.
As a die-hard fan of this game, I’d say you’ll largely depend on my mastery of Alteration and Conjuration spells for your tanking duties. With Alteration, I can enhance myself with Feather and Shield spells for protection. On the other hand, Conjuration lets me summon minions that divert enemies’ focus, reducing the amount of damage I sustain by splitting their attention.
Beyond your primary abilities, it’s beneficial to master the Illusion spell category as well. This area offers potent control options, like the spells Paralyze and Silence. Regarding gear, a Heavy Armor and Sword should suffice. Feel free to enchant them with desirable effects to complete your setup.
Here’s everything you require to create a robust Mage Tank character in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered!
