Magic: The Gathering Film and TV Universe Announced

Hasbro collaborates with Legendary Entertainment for the development of a live-action movie and television series universe based on Magic: The Gathering.

Based on a report by Deadline (via Eurogamer), Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment plan to start with a Magic: The Gathering film, then move on to a TV series and additional content. Legendary Entertainment has a strong background in adaptations, having produced films like Dune, Detective Pikachu, among others. They are also currently involved in the production of various video game adaptations, such as the Minecraft movie and Street Fighter film.

Zev Foreman, head of Hasbro Entertainment’s film division, finds the collaboration with Legendary Entertainment thrilling and fitting. Given that the franchise has fueled decades of intricate world development and imaginative storytelling, Foreman is convinced that Magic the Gathering’s cinematic and television universe aligns perfectly with Legendary’s versatile strategy for handling high-profile intellectual properties.

Mary Parent, Chairman of Worldwide Production at Legendary, shared that their company takes great pride in being careful guardians of unique, cherished intellectual properties. This description perfectly fits Hasbro’s widely acclaimed trading card game, Magic: The Gathering. Together, Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment aim to develop a “multimedia universe for Magic: The Gathering” that will captivate longtime fans while also attracting a multitude of new enthusiasts.
