Magic: The Gathering is Adding a Card Based on Ghost of Yotei’s Atsu

Atsu, the main character from the video game Ghost of Yotei, is becoming a Magic: The Gathering card! This is part of a partnership between the game’s developer, Sucker Punch Productions, and Wizards of the Coast. A special Magic: The Gathering set called Secret Lair, featuring Atsu and other heroes from PlayStation games, will be available in late October, so fans should be ready to collect them.

The game Ghost of Yotei launched on October 2nd only for PlayStation 5 and had a very successful start, selling over two million copies in its first three days. This is similar to the launch of the previous game, Ghost of Tsushima, which has now sold over 13 million copies as of September 2024.

Following the popular release of Ghost of Yotei on PlayStation 5, Wizards of the Coast revealed that Atsu, the game’s main character, will appear as a special card in Magic: The Gathering. The card will be part of the Secret Lair x PlayStation collection, launching on October 27th. According to an interview with IGN, Wizards of the Coast pitched the idea to Sony Interactive Entertainment before Ghost of Yotei was even announced. Sony then shared the concept with Jason Connell, creative director at Sucker Punch Productions, who thought it was a perfect match. The resulting card is a rare Human Rogue that costs one blue and one mana of any color. It has a power of one and a toughness of three, and prevents opponents from blocking with creatures that have one or less power or toughness.

The popular character Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima will join Atsu in the new PlayStation-themed card set, highlighting the widespread appreciation for the game. Jin is a slightly more powerful card, with two power and four toughness, and costs more to play – requiring one generic mana plus one each of white, black, and blue. When Jin deals combat damage to an opponent, you get to draw an extra card. Plus, when he attacks a player who isn’t already being attacked, you can give another one of your creatures either the ‘Ghost’ or ‘Standoff’ ability.

The Secret Lair x PlayStation collection also features iconic pairs like Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us, and Kratos and Atreus from God of War. Rounding out the selection are popular PlayStation characters Aloy from Horizon and Nathan Drake from Uncharted.
