Magic: The Gathering is releasing new Final Fantasy-themed cards and products for the holidays. This continues a trend of exciting crossovers for the popular trading card game, which has already successfully introduced sets based on Final Fantasy and Spider-Man this year. The upcoming release will add even more content to one of the game’s most well-received expansions.
The *Final Fantasy* set has been incredibly popular in the 30+ year history of *Magic: The Gathering*. It quickly became one of the game’s biggest releases, bringing the beloved JRPG franchise to life with a lot of hype. The set impacted how players build decks with strong cards like “Vivi Ornitier” and “Sephiroth, Fabled Soldier,” and it also created some of the game’s most valuable cards, like the limited-edition “Traveling Chocobo.” Now, *Magic* players can look forward to even more *Final Fantasy* cards to collect.
Wizards of the Coast revealed more exciting news for fans of both *Final Fantasy* and *Magic: The Gathering* on Friday. They announced four new “Scene Boxes” planned for release later this year, each themed around a different *Final Fantasy* game: *Final Fantasy 1*, *Final Fantasy 8*, *Final Fantasy 9*, and *Final Fantasy 15*. These boxes will feature beautiful new artwork for existing *Final Fantasy* cards, as well as completely new cards inspired by the games. Each box will also include three *Final Fantasy* booster packs. Players can expect the new *Magic: The Gathering* Scene Boxes to arrive during the holiday season.
Magic the Gathering Adding New Final Fantasy Cards
The latest Scene Boxes for *Final Fantasy* will build on the popularity of a recent *Magic: The Gathering* set. These new cards will feature more characters and stories from across the *Final Fantasy* series, focusing on games that weren’t part of the original Commander Decks. Importantly, these cards are an addition to the “Commander: Final Fantasy” expansion and won’t be usable in *Magic: The Gathering*’s Standard format.
The popular card game *Magic: The Gathering* has enjoyed successful collaborations with franchises like *Final Fantasy*, and there’s plenty more exciting content on the way. Wizards of the Coast will release a new set of cards based on Nickelodeon’s *Avatar: The Last Airbender* as the final expansion of 2025. Looking ahead to 2026, players can also anticipate sets themed around *Star Trek* and *The Hobbit*, alongside the previously announced “Lorwyn Eclipsed” and “Secrets of Strixhaven.” *Magic: The Gathering* fans have a lot to be excited about in the coming years.
