Magic: The Gathering Officially Reveals New Strixhaven Cards

Magic: The Gathering has recently unveiled many cards from its upcoming Secrets of Strixhaven set, showcasing both strong gameplay options and beautiful artwork. The game has had a great start to 2026 with two new releases: first, a return to the popular world of Lorwyn with Lorwyn Eclipsed in January, and then a fun collaboration with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in February. Now, Wizards of the Coast is preparing to revisit another well-loved setting.

The next Magic: The Gathering expansion will return players to the world of Arcavios and its famous Strixhaven magic academy. This set picks up the story after the events of the Phyrexian invasion from the March of the Machine expansion. Wizards of the Coast has been previewing cards, including new Commander decks focused on each of Strixhaven’s schools of magic, and has now fully revealed the new set.

Magic: The Gathering Reveals New Cards from Secrets of Strixhaven

On March 31st, Wizards of the Coast unveiled details about the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set, Secrets of Strixhaven, showcasing over 40 new cards. Each of the five schools within Strixhaven will receive a powerful new Elder Dragon card featuring abilities like affinity, casualty, and storm. The set introduces two new planeswalker cards: Professor Dellian Fel and a black version of Ral Zarek – the first time Ral hasn’t been associated with the Izzet colors. Secrets of Strixhaven also adds a new game mechanic called Prepare, which lets players cast additional spells on a card if they meet specific requirements.

Okay, so Secrets of Strixhaven is shaping up to be a seriously awesome Magic: The Gathering set – there are a ton of cards everyone’s going to want. I’m especially hyped about the ‘Prepare’ mechanic; it lets you basically stash some of Magic’s strongest spells – Instants and Sorceries – for later. They even included a card called Emeritus of Ideation that can actually let you cast Ancestral Recall, which is like, one of the most legendary cards in the game! And get this – Wizards is including a special numbered version of Emeritus of Ideation with art that’s a throwback to older Magic promo cards. It’s looking like a really cool set overall.

After the release of Secrets of Strixhaven, Magic: The Gathering has even more exciting expansions planned for the rest of 2026. Wizards of the Coast will launch a new in-universe set called Reality Fracture on October 2nd, and also plans three crossover sets featuring Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. With major new sets coming out almost monthly, 2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Magic: The Gathering.
