Wizards of the Coast is celebrating April Fool’s Day, but their announcement is very real.
Deadpool from Marvel Comics will unexpectedly appear in a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release, offering five cards adorned with artwork showcasing this chatty superhero.
He joins fellow Marvel superhero Spider-Man in Magic: The Gathering’s “Universes Beyond” series.
The collection features the SpongeBob SquarePants Secret Lair, as well as upcoming editions of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Final Fantasy, both standard-legal expansion sets. Additionally, it includes older releases such as Fallout, Warhammer 40,000, Dr. Who, and several others.
In Deadpool’s hidden lair, there are five cards included in the drop. One of these cards is brand new for Deadpool, while the other four have fresh artwork.
Magic: The Gathering Deadpool Secret Lair Cards
The Deadpool trading card, named Deadpool, possesses a talent that fits perfectly within the humorous “Acorn” series of Magic: The Gathering extensions, such as Unglued, Unhinged, Unstable, Unsanctioned, and Unfinity. These sets are labeled as “Acorn” due to their acorn-shaped holographic stamp or, in the case of the first four, their silver borders. This marking signifies that these cards are intended for casual, recreational play and cannot be used in competitive tournaments.
However, since these cards carry the standard Universes Beyond triangle emblem, they might be utilized more frequently compared to cards exclusively from humorous sets, particularly within relaxed game modes such as Commander, given that their legality in most cases is already restricted.
These additional cards are common choices in the Commander game setting, but they’ve been given new artwork suitable for Deadpool. Here are some examples: Deadly Rollick, Saw in Half, Vandalblast, and Blasphemous Act.
The drop for Deadpool’s Secret Lair is currently on sale, priced at $39.99 for the standard version or $49.99 if you prefer the foil cards. Keep in mind that these Secret Lair drops often run out quickly due to their limited quantity, so if you’re keen on incorporating Deadpool into your collection, it’s best to grab one as soon as possible.
As a devoted fan, I may not always agree with Magic: The Gathering’s marketing strategy resembling that of Fortnite, but one thing’s for sure – it generates substantial revenue! The upcoming Final Fantasy set is a testament to this fact, as it has already sold out before release and is now being resold at inflated prices on eBay.
