Summary
- Genji Glove in Magic: The Gathering grants Double Strike and potential one-shot kills.
- Combo with Lightning from Final Fantasy 13 can deal massive damage.
- The excitement stems from the powerful combo potential, but requires strategy to execute successfully.
A fresh Magic: The Gathering card inspired by an artifact from Final Fantasy 5 has been unveiled, and it’s already generating buzz because of its potential for a fantastic synergy with another Commander from Final Fantasy, which is also being introduced in the same crossover collection.
In the epic Final Fantasy series, the Genji Glove is a consistently potent artifact with unique capabilities that vary among its appearances. For instance, the Genji Glove featured in Final Fantasy 6 enables a character to wield two weapons simultaneously. On the other hand, the Genji Glove in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth allows players to surpass the usual damage limit of 9999.
A fresh post on r/MagicTCG showcases an early reveal of the Magic: The Gathering Genji Glove card, initially shared by Quest Daily. This card seems to have great synergy with Lightning from Final Fantasy 13, especially the variation that can function as a Commander.
Genji Glove + Lightning Is A Potential One-Shot Kill.

The Genji Glove is an artifact requiring five mana to equip. Whoever wields it gains the ability known as Double Strike, which means if they attack with this equipped creature, it becomes untapped and triggers another round of combat following the initial one.
Fans are thrilled about it because of its interaction with Lightning, Army of One. This creature isn’t just a 3/2 Legendary with First Strike, Trample, and Lifelink; it also amplifies its owner’s damage sources. If Lightning deals combat damage to a player, the owner’s damage sources will be doubled until their next turn.
In summary, when a player has Lightning on the battlefield and uses Genji Glove, they initially inflict three damage. Since Double Strike doubles the second hit’s damage, that becomes six. The character then becomes untapped. During the next combat phase, the player deals twelve more damage (three times the initial damage). This process repeats twice more, resulting in an additional 12 + 24 = 36 damage. Adding this to the initial three damage gives a total of 39 damage. If this is directed at another player or their Commander, it will eliminate them in most cases due to its high impact.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that executing this specific combo is crucial since opponents tend to focus on either taking out Lightning or the Genji Glove. It’s also worth mentioning that a bulky shield can be used to deflect Lightning, momentarily halting the sequence. However, if I manage to land a hit, it’s game over for them.
