As a huge Magic: The Gathering player, I’m already seeing some crazy stuff with the new Marvel set! Someone’s figured out a way to go infinite using The Incredible Hulk, which is wild. Wizards has really committed to these ‘Universes Beyond’ sets, and 2025 was packed with them. The Final Fantasy set was a massive hit – seriously, the best-selling Magic set ever! We also got Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender expansions, which were awesome. But 2026? It’s looking huge for crossovers, with tons of different franchises planned. I can’t wait to see what they announce!
Wizards of the Coast has revealed plans for Magic: The Gathering in 2026, promising a record-breaking seven new sets that are legal for Standard play. The year will bring back beloved settings like Lorwyn and Strixhaven, but will largely focus on “Universes Beyond” – exciting crossovers featuring TMNT, Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. There’s even early word that a new Incredible Hulk card may already be damaged from excitement!
Magic: The Gathering Incredible Hulk Combo is OP
A new Incredible Hulk card in Magic: The Gathering could drastically change how people play the game. This card, part of the Marvel Super Heroes set, lets Hulk grow stronger and create extra attack turns whenever he’s damaged while attacking. Players have realized that when combined with an older card called Caltrops (first released in 1999), Hulk can potentially attack an unlimited number of times. Caltrops deals a small amount of damage to attacking creatures, which then triggers Hulk’s ability to create another attack phase. Because Hulk also gets tougher with each trigger, he can’t be defeated by the damage from Caltrops.
Although pairing The Incredible Hulk with Caltrops could be a very strong strategy, Caltrops isn’t widely usable. It’s not allowed in the popular Magic: The Gathering formats Standard or Modern, and hasn’t been printed since 2001. However, this combination is expected to be quite powerful in the Commander format, especially since players can use Bruce Banner and The Incredible Hulk as their commander. It should also be viable in older, more open formats like Legacy and Vintage.

The Incredible Hulk is looking like a very strong card in the next big Marvel set for Magic: The Gathering. Wizards of the Coast revealed some of the cards in early December, featuring well-known characters like Captain America and Doctor Doom. The set will also include new cards with a comic book art style, similar to those in the Spider-Man set. The Marvel Super Heroes expansion is planned to be released on June 26, 2026.

The Lorwyn Eclipsed set will kick off 2026 in late January, and previews of new cards are already being released. The recently launched Avatar: The Last Airbender set is proving very popular, with certain cards like Badgermole Cub and Wan Shi Tong, Librarian, becoming quite valuable. It’s clear Magic: The Gathering is focusing heavily on crossovers in 2026, promising players a wealth of powerful and engaging cards.
