Major One Piece Devil Fruit Powers Yet to Be Featured in Video Games

As a long-time One Piece fanatic who has witnessed countless battles, alliances, and power shifts throughout the Grand Line, I can wholeheartedly say that Vegapunk and Bonney are two characters whose powers truly stand out from the crowd.

At the outset of the popular series “One Piece“, the Devil Fruits serve as a key source of power, shaping the narrative throughout its extensive run. Without the Gum Gum Fruit (Gomu Gomu No Mi), which Monkey D. Luffy consumed, his journey to become the pirate king would have been significantly more challenging. However, certain abilities bestowed by the Devil Fruits in “One Piece” haven’t yet been incorporated into the franchise’s video game adaptations.

Though the origins of Devil Fruits are disputed and unknown, it is a concrete fact that ingesting a Devil Fruit will garner the consumer immense power at the cost of the ability to swim. Beings can only acquire one Devil Fruit power, though one villainous pirate has proven to be an exception to this rule.

In the world of One Piece, over a hundred Devil Fruits have been named. Since the focus of most One Piece video games is on the main story rather than side titles like Jump Force, some powers may not be mentioned in these games. However, exceptions to this are made for mobile games such as One Piece: Treasure Cruise and One Piece: Bounty Rush, which are updated frequently and therefore have a more current understanding of the franchise’s plot and characters compared to the PC and console games.

The Gum Gum Fruit Is Not as It Seems

The Gum Gum Fruit (Gomu Gumu no Mi) has been a staple in the world of One Piece since its inception. Although it might seem unusual for a Devil Fruit not to appear in games, given that it’s responsible for Luffy’s iconic elasticity, the full essence and immense power of this particular Devil Fruit have yet to be incorporated into a primary One Piece game title.

The true name of the Gum Gum Fruit is known as Hito Hito no Mi, Model Nika. This name was revealed for the first time during the Wano Country arc, which concluded in the anime last year. This explains why Luffy’s most powerful power-up to date wasn’t previously disclosed.

In a memorable episode from the series, Luffy unveiled his Gear 5 transformation – an extraordinary manifestation reminiscent of the legendary Sun God, Nika. His body underwent a cloud-like change, infusing humor into battles that were already exaggerated due to his elastic limbs. However, when he activates Gear 5, Luffy’s melee fights take on the zany quality of Looney Tunes.

It’s expected that the absence of the power from the Devil Fruit will be addressed in the upcoming installment of the One Piece video game series. As the latest mainline game, One Piece Odyssey, was released in 2023, it’s unlikely that a new game showcasing the powers of Nika will be out soon. However, players can experience Luffy’s Gear 5 form in One Piece: Bounty Rush, offering fans a taste of this form before it potentially appears in the franchise’s next PC or console title.

Vegapunk’s Brain Brain Fruit

Vegapunk, first introduced in the Post-Enies Lobby arc, has consistently served as a significant element connecting various stories within One Piece. The Egghead Island arc provided a comprehensive introduction and established his role within the series, becoming an essential ally for the Straw Hat pirates. While his Devil Fruit power might not be beneficial in direct combat, it significantly contributed to his intellectual prowess.

Vegapunk consumed the Fruit known as Nomi Nomi no Mi, or Brain Brain Fruit, which caused his brain to grow and bestowed upon him an exceptional, photographic memory. As he acquired more knowledge through eating the Devil Fruit, his brain continued to expand. It’s possible that Vegapunk was already intelligent before consuming the Brain Brain Fruit, but it certainly provided him with additional mental capacity for storing information.

In the One Piece video games, both the Brain Brain Fruit and the character Vegapunk have been omitted from mainline games at the same time. This is because Vegapunk, who has been altered by his Devil Fruit, represents the power of the Brain Brain Fruit when he’s included in a game within the franchise.

Although Vegapunk hasn’t appeared in any One Piece video games so far, this could be because the story arc where he appears, known as the Egghead Island arc, has yet to be animated in the franchise. As the Egghead Island is still being aired on the anime, it’s reasonable to assume that an adaptation of this arc and the subsequent addition of Vegapunk will happen post-conclusion of the arc in the One Piece anime. Consequently, the power of the Brain Brain Fruit may be featured in a mainline One Piece game once the Egghead Island arc is adapted, even though it might not be ideal for combat situations.

Bonney’s Age Age Fruit

Bonney, the jewelry-clad ally, may have made her debut during the Sabaody arc, but she has consistently stood by the Straw Hat pirates since then. This unwavering support can be attributed, in part, to the strength bestowed upon her by the Toshi Toshi Fruit (Age Age Fruit).

As a gamer, I’ve got this unique ability: I can alter the age of not just me, but anyone, anything, or any object around. In the heat of battle, I can take down opponents swiftly by making them age rapidly or revert them to infancy. When it comes to obstacles, I can turn them into dust by aging them. All I need is a simple touch – either directly or using an item in my hand – and I can activate this power on anyone or anything within reach.

In essence, Bonney’s Devil Fruit abilities were exhibited in a mainline game of “One Piece” prior to this. Despite her character looking around twenty-five years old, she is actually ten to twelve years old according to the original storyline. Players have observed and experienced her powers in “One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4”. However, the power of the Age Age Fruit has been significantly enhanced since the release of “Pirate Warriors 4”, providing a more advanced version of its abilities.

Despite disguising herself using her Devil Fruit ability, Bonney significantly enhances her power in a manner reminiscent of Luffy during the Egghead Island storyline. The Age Age Fruit grants its user the ability to transform into various future versions, and Bonney has done so multiple times, resulting in an Awakened Form that bears resemblance to Luffy’s Gear 5.

As the Egghead Island storyline hasn’t been animated yet, some elements of Bonney’s power arsenal haven’t been featured. However, it’s expected that her freshly acquired abilities will be highlighted together with Vegapunk’s when the Egghead Island arc is eventually adapted into a video game.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve seen the captivating lore surrounding Devil Fruits evolve since they first appeared in the One Piece universe. Even with countless characters wielding them, diverse power levels, and distinct categories, these mysterious fruits have maintained their significant role within the series. Here’s hoping we’ll get to witness more of their extraordinary powers in future editions of the One Piece video games, very soon!
