Sony has released a major update for the PS Portal, giving the Home Screen a fresh new look and adding features like Cloud Streaming. This update improves the handheld PlayStation device and how players use it.
The PlayStation Portal, though not a full-fledged handheld like the Steam Deck or the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, is becoming a surprisingly capable device. As it nears its two-year mark, Sony has consistently added new features and improvements, and the latest update is one of the most significant ones yet.
PlayStation Portal Update Adds Cloud Streaming
As a PS Portal fan, I’m so excited about the new update! It finally lets PlayStation Plus Premium members stream games directly to the handheld, which is huge. Sony says thousands of games already work with it, and there are hundreds more available through the PlayStation Plus catalogs. It’s been a long-requested feature, and now I can play even when someone else is using the PS5, or just enjoy a game when I’m away from home with a good Wi-Fi connection. It’s a game changer!
Although Cloud Streaming is the biggest news in this update, it also improves the PS Portal with several new features and a better user interface. The update includes a redesigned home screen with three tabs: Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search. The Search tab lets you browse your entire game collection, including games available to stream with PlayStation Plus.
Sony has improved Remote Play and Cloud Streaming by adding support for 3D audio when using wired headphones or the PlayStation Link wireless audio. Players can now also secure their PS Portal with a Passcode Lock found in the settings. A new Network Status Screen helps users easily check how good their internet connection is.
The latest PS Portal update includes several improvements, such as a new in-game store so players can buy items without pausing their games. It also adds accessibility features like a screen reader and adjustable text size. Plus, you can now send and join multiplayer games directly from the Quick Menu.
