Recently, there’s been a great deal of conversation revolving around the costs of video games, particularly with Nintendo setting a new trend by pricing some upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 titles like Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at $79.99 each.
After hearing the latest news, Microsoft has announced another significant move: an increase in their prices. From now on, first-party games will retail at $79.99, while there’s also going to be a price hike for their consoles.
As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, I must clarify that while it may seem like the recent price hike is an exclusive move by the company, it’s actually not. Sony was, in fact, the pioneer who took the step to increase game prices from $59.99 to $69.99 during this console generation.
Expedition 33, is priced at only $49.99.
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson Says They Don’t Plan On Raising The Price of Their Games

During a Q&A session during their Q4 and 2025 fiscal year conference call (as reported by VGC), EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, discussed the industry’s most pressing issue. He was queried, along with other Electric Arts executives, about their approach to setting prices for their game franchises and if they were contemplating collaborating with others to increase game prices.
In simpler terms, Wilson said that regardless if it’s a small or large investment, our primary goal is consistently providing exceptional quality and substantial benefits to our users. He added that by combining quality and value effectively, our company remains robust, adaptable, and thrives over time.
Essentially, Wilson’s summary indicates that Electronic Arts is not making any adjustments to their existing approach when it comes to pricing their video games.
Instead of other publishers and market frontrunners continually pushing their prices skyward, this one offers a refreshing shift. Discussions are sure to be engaging when we approach the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, with some suggesting it might retail at up to $100.
EA has also confirmed that Skate 4 and a new Battlefield game will be released before March 2026.
