Bungie recently announced plans for a closed alpha test of their innovative shooter game, Marathon, which is a reboot of the 1994 title. Though they initially hinted at it a couple of years ago, updates were scarce until now. In recent days, the team has been sharing intriguing sneak peeks on social media platforms, culminating in this announcement.
In addition to announcing the upcoming closed alpha, potential players were given a valuable sneak peek at the game through a recently released trailer.
Marathon, Not a Sprint
After a long wait, Marathon appears to be an ambitious attempt, striving for novelty and originality in its gameplay, as evidenced by the latest trailers and previews. Breaking into the extraction shooter genre can be challenging due to established leaders like Escape from Tarkov, but Bungie is determined to make a strong entry.
2023 saw TopMob unveiling crucial aspects of the gameplay structure for Marathon. These features, initially disclosed by us, are now confirmed with the recent trailer release.
At its launch, the game will predominantly function using a system where teams consist of three members, accommodating 18 players across three different maps. Following its release into the market, an additional map, creatively titled ‘Marathon’, will become available.
Here’s the new trailer:
As a gaming enthusiast who’s hooked on the thrill of extractive shooters, you’ll find yourself in familiar territory with Marathon. Slip into the boots of a Runner, leap into this game’s universe, and brace yourself for a fight against a vibrant yet treacherous world. The survival instinct kicks in!
How to Access Marathon Alpha
To get access to the Marathon closed alpha, you’ll need to be invited by Bungie.
This all begins with accessing the Marathon Discord server and completing a survey.
If you manage to get a priority code, their suggestion is that it may not ensure entry, but instead, it might boost your likelihood of being granted access.
The alpha test is quite restricted, focusing more on players residing in North America. This is because the PlayStation codes are specifically designed to work only within North and South America regions.
If you’re able to receive a code, you’ll then be given two codes to invite friends to the platform.
The Marathon closed alpha will start on April 23, and all participants will be under a strict NDA.
