Bungie recently shared updates on Marathon, including details about enhancements, a confirmed release timeframe of March 2026, pricing information, and new features.
Marathon’s development hasn’t been smooth sailing since its announcement and early testing phase. Issues with copied content and significant player concerns led to ongoing playtesting. Now, the developers at Bungie are sharing their updated plans and vision for the game.
Marathon Pricing Details Revealed, Battle Passes Never Expire
Bungie recently shared a video detailing their upcoming game, Marathon, confirming it will be released around March 2026. The video also revealed the game is currently planned to cost $39.99 (USD), €39.99 (EUR), or £34.99 (GBP), with specific prices for other regions to be announced later. Players who purchase Marathon will receive the full game and all future updates, including new maps, character customizations, and in-game events – all for free.
Marathon Battle Passes won’t expire, so you can play at your own pace without worrying about losing progress. You’ll also be able to buy and unlock older passes whenever you want. The developers want to assure players that success in Marathon will depend on skill, not spending money – there won’t be any way to pay to win.
Marathon Devs Reveal New Features and Improvements
The latest “Vision of Marathon” video on YouTube details all the improvements the developers have made to the game since the alpha version, and outlines their future plans. Recent additions include proximity chat and a solo queue option. Players will also find a new character skin called Rook, which is built for quickly joining ongoing matches, grabbing some loot, and making a safe exit.
The game now looks more realistic, as bodies stay in the game and gradually decompose. The environment also tells a richer story, and the sound design significantly enhances the immersive experience. The developers emphasize that sound isn’t just background noise – it’s a key part of how the game is played, with every sound having a specific function.
Marathon Map Details
The developers then explored the game’s maps, called Zones in Marathon. The first, Perimeter, is a sprawling area located on the edge of the colony. Next is Dire Marsh, which offers both story elements and a faster-paced, action-oriented gameplay experience. Finally, there’s Outpost, a UESC facility filled with computer-controlled enemies and obstacles like guards, drones, and trip wires.
The Marathon Ship’s Cryo Archive is the fourth map, and it’s the most challenging area in the game – you’ll need top-tier gear to have a chance of surviving. Each map has its own unique weather and random events. These events aren’t constant, but players will be alerted when they begin, giving them the choice to participate and face the risks.
Marathon Weapons and Loot Details
Marathon players have a lot to earn, including Runner cores, implants, and more than 400 weapon modifications. The game offers extensive customization options, letting players create unique weapon combinations – the developers even showed how to transform a standard SMG into a completely different weapon and use mods to become invisible. Each of the starting Runner Shells represents a distinct playstyle, and all of them can be upgraded.
The game also features Factions, and their agents will give you missions – for example, destroying a UESC dropship. Each Faction has its own upgrade system, and players can earn special rewards at the end of each season by progressing through it.
