Marathon Release Date Confirmed, Collector’s Edition Revealed

Bungie, the game developer, has officially announced that Marathon will be released on March 5, 2026. This confirmation followed a leak just hours earlier when a trailer appeared prematurely on the game’s Xbox Club page.

Bungie announced the return of its classic 1990s sci-fi shooter, Marathon, at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase – their first new project since being acquired by Sony in 2022. In the summer of 2025, a closed alpha test was conducted, but the response was largely mixed. Players and critics liked the game’s sci-fi setting and visual style, but had concerns about many other aspects, including how the game progressed and how it played. Shortly after, Bungie announced that Marathon would be delayed.

Marathon Confirms March 5, 2026 Release Date

After a seven-month wait, Marathon now has a confirmed release date: March 5, 2026. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and players with a Bungie.net account will be able to enjoy crossplay and save their progress across platforms. Along with the release date announcement, Bungie has shared a new gameplay trailer, giving fans a better look at how the game plays, its science fiction setting, and the overall atmosphere.

The newest gameplay trailer for Marathon showcases abilities that will help players overcome enemies, both AI and other players. These include a grappling hook that appears to work even in mid-air and the power to create a clone as a distraction. According to Bungie.net, when Marathon launches, players will take on contracts for six different groups. By completing these missions, earning achievements, and discovering hidden story items, players will unlock entries in the Codex, which will reveal more about the game’s world and narrative, even when not actively playing.

Bungie recently announced the English voice actors for Marathon, and the cast includes several well-known names from the gaming world. Fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be excited to hear that Samantha Béart (Karlach), Neil Newbon (Astarion), and Jennifer English (Shadowheart) are all lending their voices. Roger Clark, known for his work in Red Dead Redemption 2, will also appear, along with Erin Yvette (Dispatch), Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), and Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead).
