Before a major update arrives later this month, Bungie has given players a sneak peek at what’s coming to Marathon, including adjustments to the Recon armor. Since the game launched in March, Bungie has been actively supporting and expanding Marathon with new content like the Cryo Archive map and frequent updates. They’ve also involved players in the development process, testing features like Duos mode, which wasn’t originally included in the game.
Bungie, known for its decade of experience supporting the Destiny games, seems to be using those lessons to improve Marathon. They’ve been quick to respond to player feedback and make changes based on what the community wants. For instance, they adjusted the schedule for Ranked and Cryo Archive so players could enjoy both modes each week without having to choose. Previously, both were available only on weekends, but now Ranked appears earlier in the week, followed by Cryo Archive. Beyond these quick fixes, Bungie is also planning a larger update later this month.
Marathon Teases Major MId-Season Update Changes
Bungie says players are about halfway through the first season of Marathon, titled DEATH IS THE FIRST STEP. Like with Destiny 2, they’re planning a major update mid-season, which will run through June. While the full details for Update 1.0.6 aren’t available yet, the Marathon team has started sharing some of the changes coming, including updates to the Recon shell.
In the game Marathon, the Recon Shell is a character focused on gathering information. It can use an ability called Echo to scan the surrounding area for nearby enemies and even see footprints. Plus, it deploys a tracker drone to harass opponents. With the upcoming Update 1.0.6, Bungie is adjusting these abilities. The drone will become more effective at tracking targets and will automatically switch to a new target if the original one gets out of range. The Echo ability will also be improved to differentiate between players and AI-controlled enemies. Enemy players will see the Echo pulse less clearly, and those who use a signal jammer will appear as AI enemies, allowing them to blend in.

Bungie plans to support and update Marathon for years to come. Even though the game may not have been the instant success Sony anticipated, Bungie is dedicated to consistently improving it. Players have already seen this commitment through regular updates and fixes based on their feedback, and can expect a continuous flow of new content as long as Sony allows. By implementing seasonal resets – a common feature in similar games – Bungie hopes to keep things fresh and engaging, alongside ongoing additions like new characters, enemies, events, and maps.
