March 3 is a Double Feature of Iconic IPs in the Gaming World

As February nears its end, Resident Evil: Requiem is set to be a major release, marking the ninth main installment in the popular horror series. This new game feels especially fitting as Resident Evil celebrates its 30th anniversary. However, Resident Evil isn’t the only long-running franchise getting attention. While it will wrap up February, two other well-known series are launching into March with exciting new content.

Fans are excited for the return of the classic Legacy of Kain series with Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered. This remastered version of the last main game in the series is sure to bring back fond memories for many. Alongside it, a new Scott Pilgrim game, Scott Pilgrim EX, is also launching. Inspired by the popular comic, Scott Pilgrim EX is an action-packed brawler. Both Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered and Scott Pilgrim EX will be available on March 3rd. While very different in gameplay, both titles are beloved franchises that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered Brings a Long-Gone Vampire Franchise Back From the Dead

  • Available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC

The release of Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered in 2024 reintroduced fans to the series, but Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered stands out because it features two playable characters. While Kain is typically the villain in Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, Defiance lets players experience the story from both his perspective and that of Raziel. After seeing their complex relationship unfold throughout the Legacy of Kain series, it was a unique and enjoyable experience to finally see their stories collide and reach a climax in Defiance. The newly remastered version looks fantastic, as showcased in the reveal trailer. Importantly, the remaster seems to preserve the original game’s feel and art style, simply enhancing the visual quality.

Every Game in the Legacy of Kain Series

  • Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • Soul Reaver 2
  • Blood Omen 2
  • Legacy of Kain: Defiance

Whether we’ll see remasters of the first two Legacy of Kain games remains to be seen, but having three games available is enough to get new players interested in the series. That’s what makes Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered so welcome. Many gamers today weren’t even born when the original Legacy of Kain: Defiance was released, so this remaster is a great way to introduce a classic to a new generation.

Besides the remastered version of Legacy of Kain: Defiance, fans can also look forward to Legacy of Kain: Ascendance releasing in March. Ascendance is a 2D side-scrolling game and will be available on March 31st.

Scott Pilgrim EX Brings the Fight Back to the Mysterious Land of Toronto, Canada

  • Available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC

Okay, so I’m super hyped about Scott Pilgrim EX! Even though Scott Pilgrim didn’t start as a game, it’s turned out to be an amazing base for these really fun, chaotic co-op brawlers. The original, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game from 2010, is a total classic – it’s packed with funny references and that signature Scott Pilgrim humor we all love. In Scott Pilgrim EX, things are even crazier! The Vegans, Robots, and Demons have basically taken over Toronto and are causing all sorts of trouble. The developers, Tribute Games, have already promised a ton of cool features when the game finally drops, and I can’t wait!

Every Playable Character and Feature Confirmed For Scott Pilgrim EX

  • Seven playable characters
  • New music from Anamanaguchi
  • Four-player co-op
  • Fighter customization
  • Chaotic melee combat
  • Story written by series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley

Okay, so Tribute Games has shown off six of the seven characters we’ll be able to play as in the new game! We’ve got Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Lucas Lee, Matthew Patel, Roxie Richter, and Robot-01 confirmed. I’m seriously hyped to find out who the last character is when March 3rd rolls around. Honestly, with how central the characters are to the Scott Pilgrim story, it could really be anyone! I’m trying to guess who it will be, and it’s driving me crazy!

With the original Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game being a beloved brawler for over twenty years, Scott Pilgrim EX has a lot to prove. It will be interesting to see how the new game compares, but early signs are very promising. While there are many enjoyable co-op fighting games available, the original Scott Pilgrim game remains a favorite for its pure fun factor. Scott Pilgrim EX looks set to deliver that same satisfying experience for players wanting a lively game to enjoy with friends, and with a full four-player team, the action can become wonderfully chaotic.

March 3 Is An Exciting Time For Two Very Different Types of Gamer

It’s natural for some people to enjoy both games. Being a fan of Legacy of Kain: Defiance doesn’t exclude someone from also loving Scott Pilgrim. However, the two games are quite different in terms of genre and overall feel. Whether you’re a long-time Legacy of Kain player, a Scott Pilgrim enthusiast, or enjoy both, March 3rd is a date you won’t want to miss.

It’s unusual to see dark, gothic vampire games paired with upbeat, witty humor, but early March brings both to the forefront. This unexpected combination highlights just how much these two popular series mean to their fans. While February always seems to fly by, there are at least two exciting releases to look forward to.
