On Thursday, Nintendo unveiled their upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch 2, through a brief video presentation. During the teaser, they hinted at Mario Kart 9 (still not officially named) running on the new system. Although no significant details about Mario Kart 9 were shared, a quick glimpse seems to indicate that the next game in the series might support 24-player races.
A sharp-eyed Twitter user (@The_Rimea) noticed a starting line setup for a race within the latest game, which seemed to have spaces for up to 24 racers to participate.
Based on what we see at the start line, it appears that Mario Kart 9 (???) could accommodate 24 players in a single race – quite a mind-blowing number!” The post includes images of the starting grid from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for comparison purposes, as shown below.
It’s yet unknown what specific games will be available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 this year, but it has been made clear that both physical and digital versions of the original Switch games will work on the new system. However, it should be noted that some original Switch games might not function properly or at all on the Nintendo Switch 2.
On April 2nd, Nintendo has planned an exclusive event focused solely on their upcoming console. This event promises revelations about the console’s complete specifications, launch date, pricing, and initial games set to be released. Stay tuned with TopMob as we bring you comprehensive coverage both before and during this showcase.
