Mario Kart World is Missing a Popular Multiplayer Feature

Summary

  • Mario Kart World’s Free Roam lacks local multiplayer, disappointing many fans.
  • While never outright promised by Nintendo, there are other local multiplayer options in Mario Kart World.
  • Fans speculate that Free Roam local co-op is missing due to technical limitations.

Fans of Nintendo are thrilled on this special day as the awaited Switch 2 console makes its debut, introducing them to “Mario Kart World”, the latest installment in the beloved series. Regrettably, they find that a much sought-after multiplayer feature is absent from the game’s Free Roam mode within “Mario Kart World”.

In a fresh spin on the beloved Mario Kart series, Mario Kart World strives to innovate rather than just reiterating what made Mario Kart 8 so popular. Although the classic Grand Prix mode persists, players can engage in Knockout Tournaments or roam freely across a vast landscape. The character selection has grown substantially to accommodate the new 24-player races, and Mario Kart World offers unique costumes as unlockable rewards. Nevertheless, despite these additions, some fans are disappointed that one anticipated feature seems to be absent from this iteration of the game.

As enthusiasts explore the fresh gameplay options in the latest version of Mario Kart World, such as free roaming, exciting new discoveries are being unearthed. Regrettably, a feature that fans have been eagerly anticipating – local multiplayer within Free Roam mode – does not appear to be included. Consequently, those who were looking forward to sharing the expansive Free Roam map with a friend or family member on the same couch will be disappointed to learn this isn’t an option.

Mario Kart World Free Roam Doesn’t Support Local Multiplayer

As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit that the unveiling of Mario Kart World took me aback, given the emphasis on multiplayer during its announcement. The good news is, we can still join forces with our friends online and dive into the diverse game modes. Nintendo even showcased the Switch 2’s GameChat function to make our interactions more immersive, using voice and camera features. However, it’s worth noting that Nintendo hasn’t explained why Free Roam local co-op has been left out. Many of us are guessing it might be due to technical limitations, considering games like Forza Horizon 5 also lack this feature.

It’s unlikely that local co-op will be added to Mario Kart World in the future due to potential technical constraints. Nevertheless, Nintendo hinted at post-release content for the game beyond just patches and upgrades. While Mario Kart 8 featured additional racers and tracks after its launch, Mario Kart World might also introduce a 200cc mode post-launch.
