Mario Kart World Leaks NEW Characters! You Won’t Believe #1!

Summary

  • Mario Kart World, releasing in 2025, debuts previously unplayable characters like Cheep Cheeps and Conkdors.
  • Popular characters like Piranha Plants and Goombas are becoming playable racers.
  • The game includes unique additions like Pianta and Moo Moo, making their karting debut.

On June 5, 2025, we can expect the release of “Mario Kart Universe” as a launch game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This new edition will bring fresh elements and characters to the beloved “Mario Kart” series. Remarkably, some of these new characters were previously only seen as background characters; thus, “Mario Kart Universe” signifies their first appearance in both the “Mario Kart” and “Super Mario” series as playable characters.

It’s likely that the introduction of 24-player races has led to the incorporation of 20 new characters into the game. These characters vary in appearance, from allies and adversaries, often observed in the periphery or serving supporting roles. Here is a list, in order of anticipation, showcasing the most thrilling and unexpected newcomers expected in the upcoming Mario Kart World.

With 24-player races now available, we have 20 new characters joining the game. These characters range from friends to foes, typically seen in the background or as secondary characters. Here’s a list of the most exciting and surprising new additions coming soon to Mario Kart World, ranked based on who we can’t wait to race with.

20. Coin Coffer

The Moneybags Replacement

In the game of Super Mario 3D Land, the adversaries known as Coin Coffers resemble a blend between a coin purse and a frog. They behave in a manner reminiscent of Moneybags from Super Mario 64, scurrying away from the player while expelling coins.

In the game Super Mario Odyssey, Coin Boxes have limitations on how extensively they can be played and are found throughout the game for players to collect. Given the significant role that coins play across many Mario games, it seems fitting to incorporate this character into Mario Kart World as well.

19. Conkdor

Dipping Bird Ostriches

In a more conversational style: Conkor birds are humorously mismatched bird adversaries that made their debut in Super Mario 3D World. They stand casually on the ground and attack by thrusting their heads forward like a diving toy bird. These birds show up as hurdles in various minigames from the Mario Party series, or as background characters in other games, but they’ve never been included in a Mario Kart game.

In essence, compared to other elements in the series, the Conkdor is quite novel. With its debut, Mario Kart World will firmly establish itself within the franchise and provide an enjoyable racing experience.

18. Snowman

No Longer A Frosty Obstacle

Snowmen characters were initially featured in the game Super Mario 64, residing in the Snow World and Snowman’s Land. In the Mario Kart series, these snowy characters emerged as obstacles in snow-themed tracks, making their debut in Frappe Snowland during Mario Kart 64.

(I tried to maintain the original meaning while simplifying some of the technical terms and providing a more conversational tone.)

In different games published by Nintendo, you’ll find these snowmen appearing frequently, often serving as decorative elements or backdrop figures. However, in the new game, Mario Kart World, the Snowman transforms from an obstacle into a playable character. Despite being armless, it now becomes a legitimate racer.

17. Sidestepper

The Original Scuttlers

Initially, the characters known as The Sidesteppers, or Crabs, made their appearance in the 1983 Mario Bros. game, often just making brief appearances. In the Mario Kart series starting from Mario Kart 64, these crustaceans can be found on the tracks, moving sideways and waving their claws.

Stepping into the driver’s seat of the Sidestepper used to cause my go-kart to swerve, but it feels like the tables have turned – it looks like the Sidestepper is ready to take control this time around!

16. Cheep Cheep

The Winged Pufferfish

Cheep Cheeps are bubble-like characters similar to pufferfish, introduced in the underwater stages of Super Mario Bros.. They’re recognized for their jumping ability. You can find them in different hues like orange, green, blue, and so on, but the red one with a white belly is the most prevalent.

In nearly every Mario game and numerous Nintendo productions, Cheep Cheeps make an appearance. The most similar experience to interacting with them can be found in Super Mario Odyssey. However, rather than swimming and bouncing about as obstacles, they will now be participating alongside the other racers in this particular instance.

15. Fish Bone

Cheep Cheep Bones

Enemies known as Fish Bones made their debut in Super Mario World (1990), presumably the reanimated skeletons of deceased Cheep Cheeps, much like the Dry Bones equivalent of Koopa Troopas. In the Mario Kart series, they surfaced first in Mario Kart 7 and were encountered in Wario Shipyard, causing racers to slow down if they collide with them.

In addition to spotting traces of Fish Bones in the backdrop of Mario Kart 8’s underwater area in the Twisted Mansion, they are frequently seen in artwork, serving as minor adversaries, and acting as background characters in the Mario Party series of games.

14. Peepa

The Goofy Extroverted Boos

Peepas are the more outgoing version of Boos, characterized by their goofy buck-toothed grin and brighter eyes. First introduced in “Super Mario 3D Land”, they serve as static or circular obstacles within a given space.

In the Mario Party series, characters known as Peepas show up in certain mini-games either as adversaries or obstacles. However, starting from Mario Kart World, these tricky entities will join forces with Boo and other characters, participating in races instead.

13. Stingby

The Buzzing Bee Foe

In the game “Super Mario 3D Land,” the Stingbies were first introduced, quickly establishing themselves as a timeless addition to the series. This bee-like character, sporting a stinger on its face, has also appeared in previous battles within “Mario Kart 7” and as adversaries in “Paper Mario: The Origami King.

In the trailer for the Mario Kart World, the Stingby is seen zipping around in a kart that aligns with its character’s design. It seems like each character will have their own distinct kart, tailored to their colors and styles.

12. Cataquack

The Catapulting Duck

In the game “Super Mario Sunshine,” an enemy called Cataquacks resembles ducks and were initially introduced. These creatures spend their time aimlessly roaming around Gelato Beach, but when they detect Mario, they charge at him and hurl him upward using a catapult-like motion.

In the game “Super Mario Galaxy” and throughout the “Mario Kart” series, you’ll find these creatures called Cataquacks. Historically, they’ve been a hassle, obstructing items on the track or causing racers to slow down. However, in this new iteration, instead of being an obstacle, the Cataquack is coming back as a playable character!

11. Para-Biddybud

Colorful Ladybugs With Feathered Wings

In a simpler phrase, Parabiddybuds are the winged counterparts of Biddybuds, looking much like multi-colored ladybugs. They made their debut in Super Mario 3D Land, and they can be spotted as background characters in Mario Party: Island Tour and Super Mario Party Jamboree.

In all previous Mario Kart games, these characters haven’t been included. However, Mario Kart 8 includes a kart modeled after them called the Biddybuggy. The trailer for the Mario Kart universe reveals a Para-Biddybud driving a kart that resembles them, which is a modified design compared to the one seen in Mario Kart 8.

10. Dolphin

The Goggle Wearing Helper

These blue dolphins, adorned with goggles, hail from the world of Super Mario, often appearing in various installments of Mario Party. A motorcycle inspired by these creatures can be found in Mario Kart Wii, known as the Dolphin Dasher.

In modern video games such as Dr. Mario World and Mario Kart 8, dolphins have made appearances, acting as assistants in one and even leaping out of water on the Dolphin Shoals track in the other. It’s quite amusing to watch, but what makes it truly exciting is that the dolphin character seems set to make its debut as a playable character within the Mario Kart series for the first time ever.

9. Swoop

The Squinty Bats

In various video games, such as Super Mario World, enemies known as Swoops make regular appearances. However, they were initially called Swoopers until the launch of Super Mario 64. These creatures are quite common in the Paper Mario series, with Swoopulas and Swampires also making an appearance in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

In the Mario Kart series, Swoops are featured in tracks such as Wario’s Gold Mine and Dry Dry Ruins, zipping about in groups with a loud noise. In the Mario Kart World trailer, a squinty Swoop can be spotted racing alongside other competitors.

8. Penguin

The Friendly Flightless Bird

Penguins are a friendly type of bird without the ability to fly, often found in cold regions but also sometimes appearing in warmer areas. They made their debut in the Super Mario series, where they’re either interacted with as characters or serve as competitors in a snowy race, like in the Super Mario Galaxy games. The first time we saw these adorable birds was in Super Mario 64.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel exhilarated about the upcoming addition to Super Mario Odyssey! The Snow Kingdom penguins, known for their knack of overcoming odds and taking flight when you approach them, are no longer just spectators in icy courses like those we race through in Mario Kart. This time around, it seems one of these penguins will get a chance to be playable, adding an exciting twist to the already thrilling gameplay!

7. Rocky Wrench

Bowser’s Mechanics

Rocky Wrench characters serve as crew members in Bowser’s vehicle fleet, emerging from manhole covers to attack by tossing wrenches. These turtle-like moles debuted in the game Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988), and made their first appearance in a 3D environment in Super Mario 3D Land.

In the Mario Kart series, characters called Rocky Wrenches appear as unexpected hurdles. They don’t actually throw wrenches, but they either spin racers out of control or provide an opportunity for a cool trick when driven over. The latest trailer for Mario Kart World depicts a Rocky Wrench zooming by with a manhole cover precariously perched on its head.

6. Pokey

The Wobbly Cactus Creature

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve come across these peculiar foes known as Pokeys. They debuted in the Japan-exclusive version of the original Super Mario Bros. These guys are unique, with wobbly spherical segments forming their body, and they’ve been a consistent presence in almost every Mario game since then.

In the exciting world of Mario Kart, here I am, ready to race alongside an iconic character – a cactus! That’s right, this spiky friend is not just decoration anymore; it’s now a racer! The trailer has given us a sneak peek at its unique three-sphere body shape. I can’t wait to experience how flexible and wobbly they will be when we reach top speeds during the race!

5. Piranha Plant

The Common Hungry Plant

Since Petey Piranha, the chief of the Piranha Plants, has been playable in “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass”, it seems only logical that their companions, the iconic Piranha Flowers, should join the scene too. Originating from the first “Super Mario Bros.”, these notorious plants are a staple in the series and are often found popping out of green pipes. They’re famous for nipping at Mario whenever they get the chance!

In the Mario Kart series, the Piranha Plant serves as both a track hazard and an item that can propel the player forward while nibbling on fellow racers. For the first time, the Piranha Plant will be playable in Mario Kart World.

4. Spike

The Spiked Ball Spitting Koopa

In simpler terms, Spike is a kind of Koopa foe from the Super Mario Bros. series, initially introduced in Super Mario Bros. 3. They often appear as adversaries across various Super Mario games, and they serve as a big boss character in Mario Party 9.

The first time Spike could be played was in Mario Party 10 as an unlockable character.

It looks like Spike is set to make his debut as a playable character in the Mario Kart series for the first time. He can be spotted in the latest Mario Kart World trailer, sporting a spiky ball protruding from his mouth.

3. Pianta

The Island Dweller

Plants made their debut in “Super Mario Sunshine,” coming in various colors and adorned with palm trees atop their heads. They have been recurring, non-playable characters across the Mario series, often portraying friendly and encouraging roles. Most notably, they can be seen as spectators and part of the award ceremony in “Mario Kart: Double Dash!!,” within the “Mario Kart” series.

In the game, Mario Superstar Baseball, plants were playable characters. Now, they’re demonstrating their driving abilities in Mario Kart World. Although there’s no confirmation yet about Don Pianta from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, at least the plants will have a chance to participate in the races.

2. Goomba

Bowser’s Original Little Minion

In the Super Mario series, Goombas stand out as one of Bowser’s well-known minions, alongside the Koopa Troopas. These small adversaries are often encountered in various levels. An interesting feature about them is that they usually travel in groups. In the game Super Mario Odyssey, if Mario manages to capture one Goomba, he can use it as a stepping stone to create a stack by jumping onto other Goombas.

At long last, the Goomba is stepping into the limelight as a playable character in the Mario Kart series, driving a straightforward brown kart adorned with its signature grumpy visage. It’s high time they had an opportunity to showcase their racing abilities on the track.

1. Moo Moo

The Legend-Dairy Cow

Back in the vibrant world of Mario Kart, I’ve always found the quirky characters that grace the tracks particularly fascinating. One such character is the Moo Moo, a cow species that made its debut in the Mario Kart 64 series, prominently featured on their own course, the Moo Moo Farm. In Mario Kart Wii, these cows transformed from scenic background elements to challenging obstacles across the Moo Moo Meadows track. Even the truck cruising along Moonview Highway sports a cow print with the label “Moo Moo Dairy,” adding a delightful touch of farm life to this high-speed race!

In the game Mario Kart Tour, the Moo Moo Dairy makes another appearance, this time appearing through the Moo Moo Mii Racing Suit and Moo Moo Offroader which were introduced in the Animal Tour. Previously, players could only simulate racing as a cow with these items, but now, the Moo Moo characters will actually be on wheels for the first time.
