As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that in the upcoming version of Mario Kart, dubbed Mario Kart World, it seems they’ve found a solution for the notorious blue shell predicament. This is all thanks to the reappearance of the feather item in regular races! With the Switch 2 set to launch on June 5, Nintendo has been dishing out more details about the console and its games, including Mario Kart World.
Since it’s been more than a decade since console players have experienced a fresh installment of the classic series, Mario Kart World carries significant expectations on its shoulders. As a flagship game for the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo is banking on this racing title to maintain the franchise’s popularity and boost system sales. With these aspirations in mind, the development team has hinted at several intriguing features that will be included in the game. Among the disclosed details are some items designed to make races even more thrilling.
During a Treehouse presentation, Nintendo demonstrated the feather ability and its possible functions. At approximately 9:20 in the video, it appeared that the player was using the feather to dodge a blue shell. Although the Treehouse staff didn’t explicitly mention it, it seemed evident from their interaction that the player had tried to coordinate the use of the feather ability with the avoidance of the blue shell. However, they used the item at an incorrect moment, and one of the non-racing employees commented, “I admire what you were attempting there.
Mario Kart World’s Feather Can Potentially Counter Blue Shells
Incorporating the feather into Mario Kart World carries a lot of weight since it was previously confined to Battle Mode in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It’s been a long time since this item appeared in regular races, with its last outing being in Super Mario Kart over three decades ago. In that game, players could use the feather for a spin jump to dodge obstacles. Since Super Mario Kart didn’t have the blue shell, the introduction of the feather in Mario Kart World would mark its first appearance as a counter to the item that chases leaders. This could offer an additional evasion strategy, as the super horn from Mario Kart 8 is set to make a comeback.
It’s intriguing to observe the role that the feather might play in shaping races within Mario Kart World. Over time, the notorious blue shell has built a fearsome reputation among numerous players. Despite its initial purpose of keeping one player from pulling too far ahead of the pack, it has also caused many players to lose races they could have easily won otherwise. The reintroduction of the feather may help even out the power of the blue shell. However, it’s uncertain how challenging it will be to dodge using the feather, as a Treehouse employee failed in their attempts to evade it.
On April 17th, Nintendo will present a more comprehensive overview of the upcoming “Mario Kart World” through a dedicated Direct. This event promises to delve deeper into the game’s characteristics and play modes. The inclusion of the Knockout Mode, open-world gameplay, and a multitude of new characters and customization options suggest that this installment could be an exhilarating addition to the beloved series.
