Nintendo recently released an update for Mario Kart World, the popular racing game on the Switch 2. The update includes several improvements and fixes errors. While players should notice a better experience, some fans hoped the update would have done more to resolve issues with online racing.
There was a lot of excitement surrounding Mario Kart World when it launched, as Nintendo heavily promoted it as a key game for their new Switch 2 console. The developers aimed to give longtime Mario Kart fans something different by adding an open world to explore. While some appreciated this change to the classic racing formula, others felt the game’s map was too empty and its online multiplayer was limited, leading to mixed reviews. Nintendo has continued to release updates to fix problems and improve the experience for players.
The game recently received an update on December 2nd, bringing it to version 1.4.0. This update added a “Custom Items” feature, allowing players to choose which items appear in item boxes during VS Race, Balloon Battle, and Coin Runners modes. You can also use this feature when playing online or wirelessly with friends. It’s great to see this option added to Mario Kart World relatively quickly, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe received it much later. This new feature gives players more control over the game, and fans have also noted it could make unlocking characters easier by allowing players to select only Kamek as the available item.
The December 2nd update includes some great improvements to the game’s music. Now, players can pause at any time to see the name of the song and the game it originally came from. A new Music Volume slider has also been added to the Settings menu, giving players more control over the game’s audio. With its fantastic soundtrack featuring remixes of classic Mario tunes, Mario Kart World’s music is a highlight for many fans, and being able to identify specific tracks is a welcome addition.
This update also includes adjustments to some of the tracks shown between races. All the updated tracks involve racing either to or from Koopa Troopa Beach. Nintendo has announced that races leading to Koopa Troopa Beach now require players to complete two laps before finishing. This change was probably made to make that Mario Kart World track a bit longer, but it also suggests Nintendo might add extra laps to other intermission tracks in the future.
Mario Kart World’s Latest Update Doesn’t Change the Frequency of Three-Lap Races
The recent update included several improvements and bug fixes, but didn’t change how often three-lap races appear in online multiplayer. Since its release, the intermission races in Mario Kart World have been a point of contention, with many players finding the travel to tracks unengaging. Although the developers have released updates based on player feedback, some feel further changes are needed, like a dedicated online playlist specifically for three-lap races.
It’s still unknown what future updates will bring to Mario Kart World. Currently, no downloadable content has been announced. However, considering the support Mario Kart 8 Deluxe received, we can expect new courses and characters to be added eventually. Hopefully, Nintendo will also keep refining the game in the meantime, giving players more content and customization options.
