Mario Kart World Revives Forgotten Classic Tracks!

One standout feature of the beloved Mario Kart series is its distinctive tracks, and they’re poised to be experienced in a fresh manner as Mario Kart World marks the franchise’s debut into open-world gameplay. The freedom to venture off-road and uncover hidden secrets scattered across the map of Mario Kart World is tantalizing, but the classic fun of racing on unique courses remains equally captivating. Among the new tracks confirmed for Mario Kart World are several familiar ones that haven’t graced the series in a while.

Mario Kart World, finds itself in a challenging spot as it needs to debut as the flagship titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 and build upon the extensive content offered by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and its Booster Course Pass. Not only did Mario Kart 8 Deluxe include all the DLC from the Wii U version, but it also got 48 additional courses in the Booster Course Pass, bringing the total to 96 tracks. Despite a blend of new and classic tracks, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe omitted some fan-favorite courses, which are now being reintroduced in Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World is Filling in the Gaps Left By MK8 Deluxe

Even with the Booster Course Pass, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Was Missing Some Iconic Tracks

In the usual style of the Mario Kart series, it’s customary to reintroduce well-loved tracks with fresh designs for some of the later cups within a new release. The original version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe showcased classic retro tracks like Moo Moo Meadows from the Wii, Cheep Cheep Beach from the DS, and the constantly turbulent Baby Park from the GameCube. In all, there were 23 tracks from previous Mario Kart games included in the base game of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but rejoice at the addition of even more beloved tracks from various Mario Kart games, including those from the mobile version, with the Booster Course Pass. This DLC has brought the total number of returning tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe up to an impressive 65! However, it’s a bit disappointing that some classic courses didn’t make the cut initially. But fear not, fellow enthusiasts! It appears that Mario Kart World is addressing this oversight and bringing back some of those remaining tracks that deserve a modern facelift.

Returning Tracks Confirmed for Mario Kart World

  • Desert Hills (DS)
  • Shy Guy Bazaar (3DS)
  • Wario Stadium (N64)
  • Airship Fortress (DS)
  • DK Pass (DS)
  • Sky-High Sundae (Tour)
  • Wario Shipyard (3DS)
  • Koopa Troopa Beach (SNES)
  • Peach Beach (GCN)
  • Dino Dino Jungle (GCN)
  • Moo Moo Meadows (Wii)
  • Choco Mountain (N64)
  • Toad’s Factory (Wii)
  • Mario Circuit (SNES)

From the returning tracks, just Moo Moo Meadows, Choco Mountain, Wario Stadium, and Sky-High Sundae were found in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This indicates that Mario Kart World is going above and beyond to add retro courses that didn’t appear in the previous version, aiming to fill some of the voids left by the Booster Course Pass. While some fans might have fretted that the abundance of tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could make its successor feel monotonous, it appears that Mario Kart World will mainly avoid reusing retro tracks.

In “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe”, you can play Mario Circuit 3 (from the SNES), but in “Mario Kart World”, the rendition of Mario Circuit seems to be a fresh blend, incorporating elements from all three original tracks in the SNES game.

It’s exciting to notice that while there’s a shift towards open-world exploration in Mario Kart World, it’s still keeping its longtime fans satisfied by bringing back underappreciated classic tracks from the series. Notably, fan-favorites like Peach Beach from Double Dash and Toad’s Factory from Wii, along with more 3DS tracks such as Shy Guy Bazaar and Wario Shipyard, are delightful additions. Moreover, there’s a chance that additional retro tracks might show up in future DLC for Mario Kart World too.
